Hello all;

I wanted to know what your opininon is on washing pads with dishwashing detergent...I have ordered some proper cleaning agents along with new pads, but wanted your opinion on the pads I have used dishwashing detergent on....are they no longer good?? Have they lost their cutting ability??

Thanks

It wont hurt them at all. I use dawn all the time to clean mine.

:iagree: I even let them soak for a while in Dawn.

My pads are soaking in them now...

that phrase was taken from tv 20 years ago.

Some sealants are tough to remove from pads. Dawn Power Dissolver works well.

Why not just consider DP's Pad Rejuvinator ???

Dawn and Dawn PD are the only things that take the WG sealant out of my pads. Not laundry soap, not micro soap, and not even DP pad soap. Just Dawn, and lots of it.

Been using Dawn for at least 10 years to clean my pads.

yes, use the great value brand dawn sometime, and on dirty rags also. I find that just taking a wet microfiber towel, holding it on pad and spinning while pad is on buffer cleans it pretty good most of the time.

Thanks for your reply's because I have wondered the same thing on cleaning pads.

So everyone uses Dawn...has anyone had any issues with it eating away at your pads? I noticed this on one of my pads after washing it in dawn. It may well have been that I didn't rinse it well enough. And it was just a tiny spot, so I assumed that it was the dawn.

I've also seen others post about Dawn eating the pads.

never. i've never had any issues with it. and i keep pads forever. believe it or not i've only thrown out one pad EVER, and that was an old school low profile 5.5" orange pad that i heated up too much when i started using a machine and it did the old collapse 'n confetti trick in the middle. i attribute the longevity of my stuff mostly to using optimum products and being very diligent with cleaning.

Most here use a variety of detergents to clean the pads with and Dawn is only one of them. I spray mine liberally with Meguiar's Super Degreaser or APC+, let it soak for a while, then into a solution of Dawn and water and I've never had a problem. In fact, I have some soaking right now.

If someone said Dawn dish washing liquid is eating their pads then it must be the sanitary kind and not intended for polishing.

Think about it for a moment; if Dawn was that strong then why do we wash dishes in it and it's the number one detergent used when an oil spill covers birds and many other aquatic life?

I recently tried Dawn on my blue LC pads to remove sealant, and it worked well. Like others have said, you have to rinse a lot to get it all out.
