Using Customers Water and Electricity

I plan to keep my services mobile and wondered if you use your customers electricity or water. Having a generator is out of my budget right now and I haven't looked into doing a waterless wash (no cold weather in Hawaii :) ). Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
 
Rinseless washes will be your friend and search the forums there are tons of threads from the past just like this with lots of great information in them.
 
Yep, sure do. Never had anyone complain. Having your own water and power for me is really when it is not available at all.

When I got my start I thought I was doing everyone a favor by carrying my own power/water. It was a COMPLETE waste of money on my behalf. Clients don't care if you use $1.25 of power and water.

Do you know how much extra fuel you burn up carrying around hundreds of pounds of water? Water weighs 8.8 lbs per gallon iirc. Do the math....it sucks
 
For whatever reason it's considered taboo to use customers power and water.It is nice having control over water quality during the summer but if you keep vehicle wet then no issues.I mainly do corrections so entire vehicle is polished anyways. Pressure washer is a must.
 
I dont dont do detailing for a living and mostly I do my car. But if I call someone to come to my place and detail my car I wouldnt mind that person using my water and electricity.

Sure, they'll wash the car...but definitely not properly.
 
Maybe run it through a swirl o matic since it's being corrected anyways.
 
Never had any complaints.
In fact almost all of them bring me drinks, I even had a married couple BBQ for me while I worked on their 2012 Tundra.

dont do very much mobile work these days.. mostly only for existing clients. when I do, I always fill the water tank

power is a different issue. Although I carry a generator, I much prefer running a cord to clients power if possible for all the obvious reasons (cost, noise, etc)

I started carrying my own water a couple years ago and I feel it was so worth it. I HATED using clients water. Started with using clients hose upon arrival. The hose is kinked, it leaks, its in the mud, etc and you have the pleasure of hand coiling the dirty hose when you're done (you don't want to look like a slob)

ok I'll bring my own hose, and use their water. Rapid reel mounted on 2x4s with craftsman hose. Now I'm lugging around the thing on arrival. the reel is in their bushes. I'm still in the mud. etc etc

So much easier and so much more professional looking to flip open my tailgate, and fill buckets instantly. Is it necessary? No. But if you're doing this a lot it sure is convenient

Optima marine battery (big boy size)
Rapid Reel
Craftsman hose
various fittings / valves / hose

system is standalone (not hooked to alternator). Ocassionally I hookup the Ctek charger while I'm unloading after a mobile job.








If I know the clients and I like how the water setup is, and I'm doing multiple cars, I'll use their water / my hose. Otherwise I fill the tank.

I do like how simple your set up is.I permanently mounted my washer so I don't have to pull out every job. I like everything compact.

your setup is clean. I could have done way more. but as I stated earlier, don't do much mobile work any longer. I focus the work and funding towards the shop.
