Using distilled water as a pre-soak?

I was wondering if distilled water sprayed on areas with the most dust and dirt suchas the hood , roof, and trunk would have a beneficial effect? My car never gets too dirty but areas that condensate each morning collect and adhere more dirt so I was thinking about pre-spraying before a rinseless wash. I know that I could use a dilution of ONR but distilled water is cheaper and I'm just curious. Would using distilled water be better than using nothing before a rinseless wash? Would there be any benefit?

And tap water is cheaper again. Personally I wouldnt be so tight and use ONR. Its cheap enough. Use something with added lubricity and cleaning power then just water

I understand the theory behind this however once the dirt and dust are there I would think a wash then rinse with distilled water would be more productive...

I have also got into the habit that anything that calls for mixing with water or dilution, I will use distilled water. I also understand that some of us have well water and depending on area this might not be the best. If you can afford it, its your decision.

Hi Mike,

I live in the country and have had well water all my life. It goes directly from the well to the tap and no filters or softeners in between and never a problem.

I use distilled water for diluting products especially glass cleaners and waterless washes.

If the finish is somewhat cared for after rinsing then drying with a leaf-blower will leave the finish spotless....:props:

Bottom line what I would like to know is using distilled water before rinseless washing better than using nothing before rinseless washing? I'm just thinking it would help loosen some of the dust that has dried onto the paint after condensation.

Sure! Rinseing/spraying a vehicle down with an available water-source would be advantageous prior to using a rinse-less washing product...That's what I do before a traditional car-washing-session.

But my thoughts also wind their way to water-conservation...a principle behind this advent of rinse-less/water-less products. It would seem conservation of one's: Financing of water-usage...would come into play as well. My water bills, including distilled water purchases, are more than keeping astride with the rate of inflation.

Boy, I'm really missing something here. Many of us pre-soak before using a rinseless, particularly those of us in the salt belt if we are doing a winter wash. Some of us use a stronger mix, however I always pre-soak with the standard dilution. It can take quite a bit of solution to do this as it's usually the sides of the vehicle and a bunch runs off.

In your situation, you will already have ONR mixed up, you are only talking about some light spritzing on the horizontal surfaces, why would you even worry about using something else when you're probably talking about 3 oz of the 128 oz of ONR you just mixed?

This does seem to be the most logical thing to do, thanks.
