very bad marring from nanoskin

Lots of factors can lead to the marring but I have had zero issues using the Nanoskin medium grade towel and Glide as lube for a couple years now. Breaking it in on the glass is a must and you don't want to use excess pressure either. I also find the more contaminants you can get off the paint chemically prior to use the towel or even clay bar, the less likely you are to marr the finish. On cars that have a lot of contamination I will use Tarminator and IronX followed by a final wash prior to using Nanoskin of clay.

^This. Not time- or labor-efficient, but it just works better.

Just to note....

Marring or no marring, from anything all has to do with a number of factors, things like your technique, the lube you use ect.

There's one factor you cannot control and that is paint hardness or paint softness.

Bee telling guys this for years now when it comes to using only a rotary buffer and same thing applies here, sometimes it's not about you and how good you are at this craft... it's about the paint.

Some paints polish better than others. Some paints scratch if you look at them the wrong way.

If in doubt, or to take an extra step of caution, do a test spot.

One of the cars I recently worked on, a black 1969 Corvette had different paint on it, that is the hood was painted by one body shop. The back was painted by another body shop, the doors and front clip by yet another body shop. All this was done as needed over decades.

Before rubbing anything over the entire car do some testing to some smaller sections and then inspect.

:)

Best thing I've read all week highlighted in red.

I learned my lesson with this a little while ago the same way you did. Now anytime I clay I'll follow with menz 106, duragloss preclean #2 or like mike said a abrasive AIO(I use menz 3n1). I got rid of my clay then seal package and added the light polish step so I can sleep easy at night. That way there is no way I return a customers car with any form of marring. Good luck.

Imo, if you are not getting some type of minor marring during a clay (or fake clay session)...perhaps you're not really accomplishing as much as you think.

yes but this was the worst marring i have gotten after using nano skin. as you can see from the pics they are bad. I have use this on about 25 cars and never had this result

when using da machine should be at a low speed keep always wet ,working in the sun with those pads ,if surface is hot they will gum up and be sticking just keep it wet .never had a promlem a lot of times I will use them by hand,The cloth version is disaster.

well i was using in on the DA all the other times but i recently bought the wash mitt and bubble bath so i was using the DA pad by hand with the bubble bath when i got the bad marring

I've been using the mitt for almost 2 years never a problem with marring. you need to use enough lube. I use ONR and a bucket with soap/ONR.

Great thread peeps.

I have used a similar carpro wash mitt which incurred very little marring on black paint.

I used a foam gun for lubrication. It was a new mitt so I broke it on the glass.

One thing I did do is use the hose gun to rinse off the mitt on every other panel. I believe this minimised marring.

I agree that taking mechanical decontamination to this level should be a step prior to at least a 1 step polishing session.

I had very bad marring when using the mitt with car soap. Even with the foam gun. It's safer to do it with a lube. I was using m34 but switched to ONR diluted 2 oz to a gallon and have had very little marring. Im sure any clay lube would work fine but ONR is the most cost effective.
