I bought a gallon bottle of the Meguiar's Quick Interior Detailer about a year ago. 2 months ago I found a forum post on MOL about the HORRID smell of a batch of QID. Further down in the post someone from Meguiar's stated that the Detailer Gallons arent effected. BULL!!! Mine smells so much like chemical it almost chokes you and I am not using it on a customers car.

FFWD to about a week ago, I couldnt stand the thought of there is NO WAY this product is supposed to smell that bad so I decided to call Meguiar's customer service. I never mentioned I had the gallon but gave the guy on the phone my batch code and he didn't even balk and sent me out a free bottle. I'm not mad the bottle I got was a 16oz consumer bottle (cause I never told him I was talking about a gallon, my mistake) but I am mad that my gallon smells MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH worse than this free replacement they sent me. I thought the gallons were not supposed to be effected by this problem?

I have dumped out the last 2/3 of the gallon I had and most likely will NOT EVER EVER EVER buy another gallon of D149 QID in my life. I have moved on to Adams Interior Detailer, the gallon smells just like the 16oz bottle. Cant say much bad about EVERY SINGLE other Meguiar's product I have tried but I am very saddened by this unfortunate event.

Gallon of Adams = $39.99... Gallon of D149 = $17.99 but I will never look back.

Interesting. I have a brand new gallon and will check tomorrow. Did you buy the gallon from AG? If so, contact AG customer service, they should be able to help you out.

Man, i got a allon from a sale about a month ago, but havent opened it yet, cause i still got a bottle of their natural shine. Gonna open it tomorrow and smell it. Im worried now.

So you're angry that you feel cheated even though Meguiar's tried to make it right, and you come here to complain about it? Why didn't you call them again explaining the situation, instead of throwing it out and deciding to just be unhappy?

You should have told them you had the gallon. Seems Meguiar's tried to make it right but they only had half the info.

It's been posted by a few folks that Adams TID streaks. Forgot to add that it's going to get reformulated shortly.

Just wait until those "special odor neutralizers"
in A's-TID goes rancid; then, you'll really have
a smell to post-up about...OOOWEEE!!

That's unfortunate on your end, too bad you had a bad experience. I love using Meguiars QID and only use the gallons. Had you used it in the past and new what it was supposed to smell like?

Strange my gallon smells great. Purchased it 3 months ago. In fact I will keep buying D149. Great price and great product.

Im not mad at Meguiar's and I know they did what they thought was right cause Im a dope and forgot to tell them I was talking about a gallon.

I hope the Adams doesnt "go bad" too. I may just stop using a QID all together and use just some ONR for the interior wipe downs.

It was a year ago and I already had called Meguiar's so I didnt want to "double dip" and call AG also.

Im not sure I meant it to complain, just venting that I was sad to see a Meguiar's product (now reformulated I think) fail me. The replacement bottle smells much better and I will use it for sure! I love MEGUIAR'S still!

You are not alone on this one. Ive gone through two gallons now. the first one smelled very strongly of vinegar. I mean so strong it was hard to use without choking. I couldn't imagine they would make something to smell so bad. I bought two more gallons of the stuff, and those both smelled much better, almost like a citrus grapefruit smell, nothing like the first gallon. I did a side by side "sniff test" with the two gallons. One smelled terrible and the other smelled great. I believe i may have gotten some of that bad batch.
I still continue to buy it though, its a great product for a great price.

I think I have a bad gallon also. I usually spray my towel then wipe interior just a whiff from the spray and you choke a bit like you would from opening a bottle of bleach or other very strong chemical. Has a bit of a burn to it as you breath any where near it. Seems to Work just fine hope its not drying out the material I am using it on. May dump the rest and try once more where it is so cheap and works on all interior surface including screens and gauge lenses. I got mine from another PBMG site.

Opened it today and it smells fine, my gallon is in the newer black jug. No difference from before or from the 16oz OTC stuff. I do have some old DP Interior cleaner that will make you cough uncontrollably so I understand your frustration.

lol no. There are threads on their forum with the issue of streaking. There is a new version coming out soon.

This makes me wonder if I bought an old bottle of this. I bought a 16oz bottle back in the early spring from a local store, maybe it had been sitting there for to long. I always thought the smell was not pleasant. Very odd synthetic smell.

Honestly OP, you should have posted this on MOL.

Even though they tried to make it right for you once, they probably would STILL try again - that's how good their customer service is.

Oh, and no bad smell here!
