Well I dropped the Vette off at the dealer this morning (scary).... as it seems my 4th roof has finally given up. Those not following past posts, it should be noted that the six generation Corvettes (05-06) have a different composite roof (lighter for removal as targa) and it can split from the frame. At 10,700 miles Im now due for the 5th.

I am told I finally get the new lexan composite roof. I was warned it is heavier by 5 pounds, but will not come apart and creak like a belly-dancer was on top. Funny thing, when service writer placed paper on roof to fill out the inspection report I cringed. He looked at me, said relax buddie, its going to be replaced with a new one. Then he smiled and said "let me guess, you dont want it washed huh ??".

LOL step away from the car right meow lol.
Edit-Man 5 roof and only 10,700 that's nuts *Like a rock* hehehehe j/k

Sorry to here you had to part with your baby! I am sure they will take good care of her. That is crazy 10K and the fifth roof:eek:
Best of luck with the new one.

Scott that is why I didnt get the painted top. Took mine in 3 weeks ago for dead battery and rear end service. Had the updates done for the BCM, glad it wasnt the steering lock. They left it inside overnight since it was so clean. It doesnt hurt being in the business either.

I like "no wash" part the best...

I would have cringed too - how rude of him to do, regardless.

5th top? I have 5k miles on mine now- no issues but that recall on it.
??
That way sucks.
What do you attribute that too?

It seems unbelievable that you went through that many targa tops on your vette. Other then the head liner on my 85 vette the targa top is just like new. The head liner is comming unglued and I'm going to replace it. In 85 the targa top were still fiberglass. Not very light but they hold up very well. I think I would have took your vette home and put it in the garage instead of leaving it at the dealer.

That sucks Scott, wow 5th one since you bought it. It must be the Fl heat

yes....washing is a big no-no.

Tell them to send you home with a new top, and a spare for next time!

I can share with all the whole story as I have been to GM and back and even discussed issue with factory.

When GM designed the new 6 generation Vette (the third version with a targa standard) they had many complaints that it was too heavy to remove and install by one person. So the introduced a newer version that was essentially painted Lexan.

I ordered my car in late 05 as replacement for the 02 that got wrecked and was built 8-8-2005. Within four weeks my first roof when bad because of Florida heat and black color pulling in heat versus reflecting like whites and metallics would do. I was one of the first five to ever be replaced (all black units at that time). Shortly after the 2nd roof when bad. I contacted the NHTSA and filed formal complaint . Roof 3 was replaced the following spring and 4th is when GM and I got into it only to find out in Texas (where I ordered car at cost) they were allowed 5 repair attempts.

GM finally admitted to the problem at this time and started a "customer reference" that allowed them to drill two small holes in rear of frame and shoot foam into roof to supposedly adhere to both parts. It did not work and meanwhile NHTSA was now getting numerous complaints of roofs actually being detached while driving. A mandatory recall was issued, and the roof was redesigned of the same material used in past C5 Vettes without issue. Unfortunately it is heavier and usually takes two people to reinstall. Very late 06 and all current 07's have new roof. One well to tell is pulling back the headliner a bit. If it is white in color its new roof, it is dark its the former lexan roof.

I believe this was the 3rd roof, came apart after rain storm.

Good to see that you're getting the roof replaced, but yes, at least the guy realizes that you take great care of it and that you don't want it messed with!

Im glad at least he was observant enough to catch your cringe and could pick up that you didnt want the car washed. Why the heck did you have to leave your car? Why cant they just give you a new roof?

BTW, I might be temporarily be apart of the Vette family. A guy who "couldn't pay up" is giving up his 05 Blue Vette as payment on Thursday :righton:

I could of sworn you posted about this before and said if it happened again then you would sell it.

Scott said he just couldn't b/c he'd have to part with the gold chains as well:D

Yes the case of the disappearing roofs, happened to 2 friends lol. Here's an old vid of some guys on a car run (Ferrari's and Gallardo going by were part of the group).

I probably could have pressed the issue, but roof is supposedly an overnight item because of recall. GM is trying to reduce liability by not allowing cars to leave once roof is found to be delaminted. Luckily it should be painted, prepped and on car by Wednesday.

Good luck. You have more patience than I; were it me, I think I would have said adios to that car and moved onto something else.....
I hope this time it is right, scott! keep us posted, por favor!!
