So my girlfriend has a 2007 Volvo, keep in mind she had a 2006, but it was a lemon. So she got a better 2007, for the same price. This new one has chronic problems, (battery wont hold charge, wiper fuild won't spray, high pitched squeek at idle. So she's been to the dealership atleast once a month since having it. Now, she needs new wipers cause the wipers they use are thin and rubber one peice that can't be refiled... So we go to the dealer to get the wipers since you can't find them in the store... 48 bucks a wiper.

We walked out. 48 dollars to replace wipers?

Anyone else ever heard of people with Volvo's having problems?

Back in college, friend had a S60 R, good looking car and don't think he had issues with it. I know I saw a lot of complaints on the S40.

friends bro has a S60 R straight from sweden went to go pick it up no problems, my dad has XC90 no problems yet either.

I own a 1995, 860 older model but reliable as heck. My friend, is the shops manager told me a few times that the newer Volvos have been having issues. I didn't pay close attention as he told me that he prefers the older models (90's) because he considers them to be much better built and easier to fix.

This makes sense because since the 90's technology has increased exponentially and well you know what happens with new technology.

Sorry to hear about your GF Volvo, usually Volvo's are really good reliable vehicles. Best of luck to you.

A few co-workers of mine have Volvos, no issues...
Should dealer sell that special rubber refill for your wiper blades? They should.
I paid $20 for mine (Acura).

We own a '96 850 GLT with 182k+ miles. There are costs associated with properly maintaining any vehicle. Volvos parts and service are not cheap. I have spent a good deal of money maintaining ours over the 11 years (next month) of ownership. I've had a couple of issues that I'm not happy about (A/C and two door issues) but this car is still a really nice vehicle. We are fans of the new exterior styling (I like the interior layouts and the materials and workmanship look nice based on the loaners I've driven) so we are not currently inclined to purchase a new model. Still like the looks of the station wagons, but don't really need one for day-to-day use.

I don't replace just the blade filler, always replace the entire assembly. They aren't cheap for the Volvo, but IIRC the replacments for the VW NB were even more expensive.

Edit: Nica, you probably own either a 850 or a 960. If it is front wheel driven it will be the former, rear wheel drive the latter.

You can have the least dependable (Land Rover) vehicle and not have any issues with it, or the most dependable and still have issues. It really depends if you get the lucky model.
Sorry to hear about issues, I know the are PITA.

Yes, you are correct it is the 960 :D . Wife really likes the car and I just remember one thing that I need to do to it. The trim around the windshield needs to be replaced, apperently they are known for having poor trim around the winshield. The corners are falling apart, easy to replace well at least that's what I've been told but it will cost me...not sure how much but I'll have to get it done. My Volvo has over 300,000 KM (about 186,411 Miles) and the engine is running smooth never had any problems with it.

We hardly drive it now, only once in a wile...poor thing just sits in the garage getting pampered by me trying to "detail" it.

My brother drives a '96 Volvo 850R. My grandfather has a '95 850 and my other grandfather has a 460. My dad drives the XC90 and I just sold my '99 S80 T6 a few years ago. Fantastic cars. I had a few issues with my S80, but supposedly Volvo openly admitted that the '99 S80 T6 was the worst car they ever made. I didn't think it was that bad, but the suspension would knock when going over speedbumps.

On the same subject, have you guys been looking at the Volvo stock (VOLV)? They are at a 52-week high after Volvo Truck purchase Nissan Diesel. Wish I would have gotten in earlier!

Here is my brother's 850R after a good detailing. He always kept it in pristine condition, I think part of why I'm OCD about my own paint is because of him. Respect!

I'm probably biased, but everytime we walk out to our sitting Volvo we marvel at the timeless lines she presents. We normally trade in our vehicles in 7 year cycles, and are usually ready for something new. 11 years and she still "sends me".

Nica, I haven't had any windshield trim issues. I have had to replace the trim piece on the roof which I assume acts as a drip rail. It ran somewhere between $100-$150 including parts and labor. I'll have to replace the other side soon.

Yes, the engine still runs smooth, and the factory exhaust note is the best.

P1et, We looked at the 850R showroom floor model as we were purchasing ours. I was still new to the Volvo badge and didn't want to factor in the uncertainty of the turbo and potential maintenance issues. It had some really nice appointments. How many miles does he have on his? Has he had any turbo issues? How has that leather seating faired?

I will again praise the paint quality of that year. Volvo boasted of the "green" processes used.

We bought the 850R in Austin, TX, in 1997 when it was just a year old. It was a showroom model as it was top of the range back then. Beautiful machine. Now, at almost 11 years old, it probably has 80K miles on it.

My brother bought and Audi A3 about a year and a half ago, so the Volvo has been sitting since. It's not registered, so not currently on the road. The leather is in pristine condition and the turbo whistles soundly as it always did. He put a blow-off valve on it, and it sound SO nice!!!

That sucks! I always thought Volvo's were good cars. Is this one going to be declared a lemon too?

They are good cars, as their first priority is safety, not fuel economy, and that's important. Just service is not cheap.
