Hi,
I just picked up a 01 gti. The interior was filthy. I started cleaning the interior plastic with 1z cockpit premium, it just was not doing the job. I then went to meg apc+ diluted 1 to 10. If you dont know some of the vws interior is rubber coated plastic, the apc took the rubber coating off of the center console area!!!! What do you guys use for the vw complicated interior?

I use diluted Awesome

The VW carpets are some of the worse to try and vacume. The only carmaker that tops them on cheapness is Subaru

yea i have blown them out with air and vaced them 3 times im using my pc brush now and a vac

I think I used steam on the last very bad VW, worked wonders. That was a Jetta

the rubber coating comes off in every VW interior. It's kind of ridiculous.

i like the steam idea, im going to give that a try. I want to pick up a little steamer and a bissel pro heat.

you need kid gloves on that rubber coated interior. Or just give up and order the GTI/GLI interior that is brushed aluminum. No more peeling!

When the surface is that dirty, Cockpit Premium's light cleaning ability won't be able to do the job. Recommend Plastic Deep Cleaner instead. It's made to remove really deep grime and scuff marks.

As far as the rubber coating, unfortunately I've seen this problem elsewhere including Infiniti's. It's really important to be really gentle when cleaning and to use a product that isn't too caustic causing the rubber to soften and just come off.

If using Plastic Deep Cleaner, be sure to use in the shade and make sure the surface is not hot. This goes for all chemicals since heat will only amplify it's strength. Don't rub too hard - allow the product to do most of the work. Also, leave on no more than a few minutes to work (~3 min). Wipe off any excess with a damp cloth.

After you've cleaned the surface, Cockpit is really excellent as a maintenance cleaner. It's light cleaners won't agitate the coated surface.

Hope this helps.

Watch out for anything that is VW "soft-touch" (center console, rear center console storage capsule) this stuff gets agitated by a lot of things. I found that armor all (yes OTC I know..) CLEANING wipes work best. traditional air fresheners even make the material start to bubble!
