I used the stuff from probably around '92 until '99. It wasn't all bad.
In the early years I didn't have a car, but used it on my road bike. At the time I was doing long distance rides and an occasional multi-day tour. Even applying it by hand on a bike frame, I could see the benefits of the mild abrasives. The protection would last a year, mostly due to the bike being idle during the winter.
On a car with more surface area, the best thing I can say about it was it's durability. The stuff really lasts a long time; easily 6 months. My biggest issue was streaking. Horizontal surfaces always had a mottled appearance if you looked closely enough. Looking back I wonder if applying by hand probably didn't help this at all.
Despite the issues, it was my gateway drug on a long, slow journey that lead me hear.
