Hi I am new to this forum and I had a few questions.

I just bought a black 13 shelby gt500 and since I have to hand wash this car I want to know how to take care of it.

So far the first time I washed it I used a 100% egyptian cotton cannon towel which I was told by zaino was fine but it put spider scratches all over my car.

Now I since I need to detail it anyways I was wondering who in the maryland/dc/virginia area is a good place to take my car to?

So far the only true paint correction place I have found that will actual get rid of the scratches and not fill them is this place.

GorillaDetail

Also for weekly washing I bought the zaino car wash, AIO, polish. quick detailer, and leather cleaner. I also got a bunch of micro fibers from pakshak and autogeek and some window cleaner and optimum to use for a quick detailer instead of the zaino product for inbetween washes.

Please let me know if what I am doing so far is good or not thanks.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to Autogeek Online!

Congrats on the new GT500!! Awesome car.

Just because you used that towel, didn't mean it wouldn't scratch your car. It all depends on your technique and method. I would start out by getting two Home Depot or Lowes buckets and get two Grit Guards sold here at Autogeek. Then you'll need a quality soap and soft drying towels. If you are using some cheap microfiber towels, they are just going to scratch your paint.

I would highly recommend reading throuhg Mike Phillips' Art of Detailing book as it explains each step of detailing and all the tools needed to achieve a perfect finish.

For weekly washing you wouldn't need an AIO and polish everytime. Only when the car has some swirls on it. No need to be removing clear coat when it isn't necessary.

I would do some reading on the forum and then come up with a plan.

I always suggest the below,

Start a thread on this forum asking for a Pro Detailer in your area.

Here's why,

Detailers that hang out on a forum like AutogeekOnline.net know more than detailers that don't hang out on forums at all.

Forums are where "good" information is shared and this helps detailers to do the work right the first time, not swirl everyones cars out.

Maybe the guy you linked to does hang out on forums but there's no way of knowing unless he chimes in.

Check out this thread to see how my above suggestion works.

Remember the paint on your car is thin, you don't what to have to pay someone to undo someone else's work.

:)

Welcome aboard!

You can't go wrong with a good rinseless wash for starters, some Alien clean (Optimum Power Clean) diluted for the tires and wheels and a variety of mf towels to dry the car as well as wipe down the car when using a quick detailer or spray wax.

I see everyone here, including myself, that will be more than willing to help you out.....especially since you've got such a sweet ride!

Its all about maintence once the paint is corrected, we're here to help, so either ask away here or PM someone that you feel is trust worthy based off of how they post and what they say.

Once again, welcome aboard!

Congrats on an excellent purchase. You bought a black car! Say hello to your new mistress... ;)

For weekly washing might I suggest this

Metro Full Size Vac N' Blo 4.0 HP Vacuum, car vacuum and blower, vac and blow, metro vac

and or this

CR Spotless Rolling De-ionized Water Filtration System, deionization system, water de-ionizer, purified water systems, cr-spotless, spot free rinse,

If your budget allows.

Use them both with great results. I follow a simple rule, the less I have to touch the paint the less chance of swirls, RIDS and the like. If my water was very soft I might skip the DI unit.

Welcome and congrats on the new car I will second reading Mike Phillips The Art of Detailing as it helped me a lot and I had been detailing cars for years and professionally for the last year. Also go to peoples shops and ask them about how they do cars and what products they use and make sure they aren't using fillers also this gives you a chance to look at their work.

Cotton is a great choice for drying and lsp removal...but you have to trim the edges and label first. :nomore:
Also a great idea to wash/dry new towels before use.

First welcome to this great group of guys and gals who make up this crazy Autogeek forum! lol.

Well, everyone has give great tips on washing and cleaning your ride. I will attempt to help you with finding a dealer in your location that will do paint correction, if you decide you want to take it somewhere and get it down...

all towels, even 100% cotton towels can have polyester ribbing around the edges and as a pattern across the towel. This can indeed harm paint.

Great products from what I hear.

Once you get the issue of soft clear down, and swirls corrected, maybe use a spray wax or the above QD as a drying agent that lubes as you dry. My two cents.

I guess I should have been more clear with what I have already done.

So far I've gotten a bunch of micro fibers from pakshak then yesterday I got a bunch of micro fibers from auto geek for drying, window cleaning, buffing, etc... I use a leaf blower for drying. I got a drying towel just to pick up what ever is left over.

I have all the zaino products for daily driver maintence. I know you dont polish and AIO every week. I got those to do them every 4 months or so. I use the car wash every week though.

I also got the optimum no rinse wash because I heard its better to use as a quick detailer inbetween washes since dust gets on this car like white on rice.

My washing technics are good which is why I dont have swirls I have spider scratches that are straight lines.

I also got 2 5 gallon bucks from autogeek and the grit thing to put at the bottom of the pocket to wipe off dirt. I also got the wash mits one for my wheels and one for my paint.

Also when I used the cotton towel I did cut off all the borders so there were no hard parts. I also think its because I didnt have a towel soley for wheels and one for the car. I would mix them up not when washing but after I put them in the washing machine I didn't pay attention to which one touched my wheels or paint. Also I think because I didn't use 2 separate buckets I probably was wiping dirt all over my paint as well.

I thought I would be ok doing the car then the wheels since doing the reverse makes scratches happen but oh well.

Now as far as a detailer to fix my scratches I found this one that will come to my house they say. They are so far the only one I found that actually corrects the paint and not fills the scratches. Here is the link. Tell me what you guys think.

GorillaDetail.com - Detail Services

I needed a full detail and claybar of this car anyways to start protecting it so that I can just easily maintain the paint.

EDIT: Can't advise on someone that I have no knowledge of.

You referring to the link I posted? I was posting that so people could read their services and tell me if those are the right ones or not. But yea anything more than 30 miles from is too far. Unless they are really really really good then maybe I'd drive 40 miles for them.

He is really good! And if I remember correctly he is now an authorized Cquartz Finest installer.

I just looked at the pictures of the black GTR and the process your right that car looks beautiful now. And it says he does mobile services too so if he would drive to my area that would be perfect. I sent him an email so he can contact me. If I can work out a good price with him and he can come to me I will be canceling my appointment with the other place.

Dave is highly regarded. Look at his post history.

One thing about prices...it doesn't tell you about quality.
I'm 35 miles from you and share the same feeling about distance and the beltway...22 mile back-up this morning with weather and car fire. Not only that, but you'll be a non-returning and non- referring customer as from my experience dealing with Mont. County.

Many here will attest to Dave's ability and experience, including AGO Staff.

I want a good person so I can take my car every 5-6 months to be professional detailed as a maintenance thing too. So if he would meet me here that I would be a returning customer for him.

10-04.
Hope that everthing works out with the scheduling. One thing about the forum, most here are honest about others here, and put principles before personalities, as seen by riders post.
