want to start detailing my own car

.
Wow, a lot to go through here!

I did not look through all the kits.

A few suggestions-

Get Ultima Paint Guard wash or Optimum Car Wash. These two are the best car washes available.
optimum is on my list.

Your 4Star UPP is an excellent choice and you do not need a wax. If you want one later go for it but UPP protects better and looks just as good as the best waxes and applies easier than any of them. It's durability is not as grand as say power lock but one layer gives you 3 months and you can layer it after 6 hours if you want to. good to know

Skip the collonite 845. It's overrated and difficult to buff off. Let the crowd scold me... Whatever.. That's my experience... And yes I applied it thin (I'm an Ultima user)i was thinking of using it more for the winter months. would you still drop it?

Skip the 303AP. Get PERL instead. PERL is better than 303 on any surface IMO. It definitely looks better. Gorgeous on interiors and tires. Fades on tires after a couple weeks but on interiors lasts a very long time.interesting.

Use UTTG for exterior trim. Perl also looks great on trim but won't last as long.

Use UTTG or PERL for tires depending on the look and durability you want at any given time.

Get the rolled edge mf towels. They are good. Skip the rest of the towels available here (not that I tried every one but the ones I have I only liked the rolled edge. All others linted or didn't absorb. If you need a waffle weave look at PS. (sorry AG) I have heard many like the guzzler towels so maybe try those after all. Maybe they are great! I never tried them. Oh, I know! Sonus has some wonderful soft non linting buffing towels and AG does sell them I'm pretty sure. I know they have them through Autopia store so tell them you want those! (Sonus white with a red border 16x16). They are what I use on my Sky to buff off a sealant or wax.would you happen to have a link to the ones you're talking about? the amount of chpices is a bit overwhelming.

Get Stoners glass cleaner instead of DP.that's already on my list.

How much is the grit guard by itself? Buckets are a couple bucks at home depot.

Wolfgang TSR is a great polish for beginners. It is still a favorite of mine even today.
Menzerna 4500 (85RD) is great for a finishing polish but your WG combo will be good to save a few bucks if it does.i'm just going to stick with the wg combo

Pinnacle paint cleaner is excellent and one of my favorite paint cleaners for sure. A bit pricey but great product.

Skip the sheepskin wash mitt and purchase the CarPro wool wash mitt and/or a microfiber chenille mitt.cool

Wow, huge order.
That's jumping in with both feet!
I'd go with 2 orange, 2 white, 1 black and 1 blue pads.
Not so sure on the 601 bonding agent? You already have the pinnacle paint cleanser.thanks for that

I would also not buy that griots garage polisher kit, it has 6.5" pads and you will end up not using them. Just buy the polisher, then double your order on the 5.5" flat pads and pick up the XMT pad cleaner and conditioner if you want them separately. Either that or just buy the polisher and invest the rest from the kit into a 3.5" backing plate and some 4" ht pads. great idea. and it will save me a bit. didn't even think about that.... too much on my mind trying to figure this all out.

That's just my .02 cents. You have some really good products there.:dblthumb2: thanks

I see that you have 3 different rubber protectants, 303, Ultima, and CarPro. I'm guessing you want to try all 3 to see which you like best, since you really only need one IMO. I've done that before. Then I buy a gallon of what I really like. I also do searches on the internet to find as many reviews as possible for all of the products I consider before I buy. There are a tremendous number of positive reviews from people who would buy 303 again, for example, which is why I bought it. I didn't research the others. i was initially going to use the 303 on the interior only, and the other two for the tires. but now, i'm not sure.

It looks like a good order to me, with a lot of good products. It's your money, if it's what you want, it isn't overkill. I've spent more than that on stuff, but in multiple orders. Be sure to request your free Autogeek wall banner with that, and free samples, too.will do

It looks like you will hit the ground running with that list.
The only things that I can think of to consider also are a microfiber cleaner and a pad cleaner. If you wash your microfiber towels right after you use them with a microfiber cleaner, they will look perfectly clean like new, but if you let them sit for a week, you may end up with stains that never come out. I speak from experience. Soak the towels in a bucket with microfiber cleaner in it for a while. I let them sit for 4 hours, because I see no harm in that. I agitate by hand, then I might rinse, and then throw in the washing machine with more cleaner to let the machine get them perfectly clean. any particular one that you recommend?

thanks guys

Uhmm...why didn't anyone mention the "Free Banner". Hey if you don't want the banner, PM me and you can send it my way!

Im the MAN:dblthumb2:

they did mention the free banner. Blackthorn One mentioned it in an earlier post. and i'll probably be keeping it. lol

The buffing towels - Sonus Der Wonder Microfiber Buffing Towels, microfiber buffing towels, quick detailing towels, detailing towels

Waffle weave - I bought some of these first WW I ever bought. Still use them to this day but not as good as PS. Still, very very good if they are the same as what I bought a few years ago. Sonus Der Wunder Microfiber Drying Towels, waffle weave drying towels, car drying towel

Merino wool wash mitt, auto wash mitt, sheepskin wash mitt

To see how to properly care for this mitt look here: http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/product-reviews/38573-review-carpro-wool-wash-mitt.html

Here's the mf chenille mitt: Supreme Micro-Chenille Wash Mitt, microfiber wash mitt, washing mitt

To answer your question about using 845 for winter you could certainly do that but I would use Menzerna Power Lock or multiple layers of UPGP instead of 845 if I wanted a durable polymer sealant or a wax.

Many love 845 so go for it. The price is cheap at least... After you have used that and used 4 Star UPP you will see the HUGE difference in application/removal. UPP will make you smile (as will most quality sealants when it comes to how easy to buff off) 845 will make you frown when you go to buff it off.

Corey you asked for it. Consider yourself scolded. You must be doing something wrong. That aside, I respect your opinions and have found the products you recommend to be very worthwhile

Ya, blue rolled edge rock for the price! Bogo FTW :)

Doug, are you suggesting it is as easy to use as any of the quality sealants? :)

I respect you as well my friend! I am always happy to have some respectful disagreement. If everyone on a forum agrees then 555,000 out of 555,001 of us are worthless.

you guys have given me some more to think about.

hopefully i'll make some final choices on friday and can call up and make my order.

this should be a fun summer.

are the pads in this deal good? if so, would AG be willing to match with the flat pads??

Call Nick, we price match but I don't know the details...

I just read through this thread, lots of help provided by a lot of experienced people that just goes to show when you shop with Autogeek you get great products, great prices and GREAT customer help through the AGO forum.

:props:

finally placed my order. total came to $584, saved $130 with codes.

getting 5 free samples plus a free jar of detailers max wax.

not bad.

no. split the order into 5 to get the samples and had to use a different code for the random orbital.

figure the samples will serve me better than a banner.

only thing i forgot was the pad cleaners....and mf cleaner.

looks like i also forgot grit guards.... damn.

guess i'll be making another order.
