Wash Media... What are your favorites ? and which ones to avoid ?

What Wash media are you guys using ? Which ones should we avoid ?

What do you guys think of the Zymol or Detailers Domain Uber Yellow Sponge ?

I like the DD uber sponge a lot.

I also picked up some of the Griots Garage Microfiber Chenille wash PADS (not mitts). They seem stout and are better filled out than the Cobra mitts. The cobra mitts looked like they were lacking on the space between the caterpillar strands. I wish AG would stock the Griots wash pads, not sure why they dont already. They are superior to the Cobra ones imo.

I also have the OPTI-Mitt for ONR.

Do you guys think I am risking potential scratch's or marring with the Yellow sponge's ? They work and feel so nice, and seem to rinse very easily, but I wanted to get some advice from some of you guys with more experience and time put into detailing. I've only got a few years experience and am still in the mode of testing new products like this out. I suppose I have yet to find the holy grail of wash media.

Almost forgot, I picked up 2 sheepskin wash mitts as well (used one a while ago , and because of user error in maintenance they destroyed themselves).

I'm interested in hearing your guys thoughts on this subject and what you use and why...
 
My absolute fav is the Wookie Fist but it requires some care and is a lil expensive! I am actually about to order another one! Otherwise I have some MF finger sponges that I get for a local source that work really well too!

Get the GTechniq wool wash mitt. Best wool mitt I have found.
 
I hate mitts. It is a PITA to take off, rinse a panel and put back on. Sponges are easier for me. I have some Chanille sponges and LC Garage Sponges. I also like an MF sponge like The Bone. For ONR, I use the Opti Mitt but hold it like a sponge. The Cobra Chanille Mitt is an inferior product IMO . It is too small and the elastic band is rough and tight.
 
I use microfiber towels for ONR washes and Microfiber noodle mitts (with the cuffs cut off) for traditional washes.
 
For what its worth, I am also in Griot's camp on this....their sponges are best, all we use here between the three of us. The mitts are very nice as well, but again they are large, and get pretty heavy so you loose some contact with the finger tip end of the mitt...the MF sponges are superior. I like the two colors, allowing an old guy to keep things straight on which one to use where. Two pence worth input here...
 
Supernatural Short-Haired Wookie is my all-time favorite. It's a bit hard to find though.

I do like the GTechniq Wool Wash Mitt.It's very thick,holds alot of soap/water and is soft for the paint:

But as you can see I also am a fan of the Opti-Mitt (use 2 at a time when washing with ONR):

I also like the ShMITT (white/yellow for vehicle & black for wheels),Adams Professional/Jumbo wash pads,and the Cobra Chenille wash mitts too:

When using the ScMITT and Opti-Mitt,I don't put my hand in them but use the wrist string.I must say that for rinseless washing I do prefer these.
If I'm (2) bucket car shampoo washing,I preffer the GTechniq wool wash mitt and Adams pads.I tried the GTechniq with rinseless washing and I felt it didn't do a good enough job of releasing the dirt from the mitt.However when doing 2 bucket shampoo washing,the GTechniq (and Adams) do a EXCELLENT job of loading up with car shampoo (suds) and water,which help it glide across the vehicle and keep the lubricity going to help not mar/scratch the finish.
So I dedicate my wash media for which wash technique I'm using at that time.
 
wowzers, looks like a GTechniqe order is due for me. That mitt looks stout !

When you say sponges, do you mean a traditional style (yellow like) sponge ? or do you mean there microfiber pads ?

I have there microfiber finger (chenille) wash pads as well, that come in 2 colors. thats what your referencing ? (i just dont want to confuse myself).

I have a couple of lambswool washing mitts that I use regularly and not to long ago I bought the SchMITT Mulit-purpose Foam Mitt.

The lambswool mitts have always worked great but I like the idea behind the SchMITT so I thought; why not!

How about those Lake Country Blue Grout sponges ?

any good ? i have two of them that I have never used.

(it is was not 15 degrees out right now, I would test most of these questions on my own, so sorry if this fact annoy's people ;))

Nope, the ones Autogeek sell are long-haired which are a pain to take care of. This is the one I'm talking about:

Autogeek doesn't sell it...but they should :)

Much easier to take care of and so soft on the paint. I have tried many real and synthetic sponges, microfibers, wools; none of them compare to this one.

If you google short-haired wookie you can find it online.

the LC GS is too thick IMO, i had some and ended up trading them away. the lowes proline or HD grout sponges work well and are priced just right...

I like the LC, but I have big hands.
