So my dad has a GG6 and the 6" backplate it comes with has a washer in it. I bought a Griot's 5" vented backing plate for my MT300. It did not come with a washer. Is it going to work better on curves if I used a washer with the vented back plate for the MT300?

Also, if my dad uses the 5" vented backplate, he should use the washer that came with 6" backplate the DA came with?

Call Griots Garage CS tomorrow and ask them that question. It's the only way to get the 100% correct answer...

If they forgot to include it, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to give you 1 for free.

My 1st thought is it seems a bit odd for that type of backing plate to not require or recommend a plastic washer.. I know I keep a spare just in case I somehow lose mine for those standard type backing plates.

I believe AG sells the compression washers in packs of fives.

Why pay + shipping when he can experience the top notch Griots CS 1st hand. I can say from personal experience that it's in a league of its own.

I just bought a 5" vented Griot's backing plate for my GG6 a month or so ago and it definitely came with the washer and the rubber stopper on the threaded shaft to keep it in place. It was in a sealed baggie.

I think it's smart to have a few extra's on hand in case you loose the original and don't think Griots should be expected to ship you 5 or so for free.

All the backing plates I've bought ended up coming with a compression washer, but if you just have one you can just keep swapping it to whatever backing plate you're using at any given time, just be sure to remember to swap it between them.

You bet. You'd be surprised how often I share your links with people, whether it be people online or people I personally know. My mom was complaining recently about using Megs cleaner wax by hand on two vehicles and her RV, and I told her to visit her local HF and grab their DA with the 20% off coupon (sorry autogeek, but she's cheap), and to come here and get half a dozen LC polishing pads, and a backing plate.

After she was set on getting the supplies I linked her to several of your articles so she felt comfortable going into her first time using the machine. She texted me about a week ago saying how glad she was that she bought everything, and that your articles and videos were incredibly helpful.

I somehow recall reading of using multiple washers to allow higher rpm...any truth to this. From the illustrations, discussions and disassembly of my PC i don't see how this would affect the drive mechanism?

No truth to that at all.

The backing plates on some Long Throw polishers purposely rub on the shroud and many people will add metal washers to keep the backing plate away from the shroud -- this improves rotation but would not have any value with a short throw polisher.
