Washing brake dust off wash sponge

I have an Opti-Mitt wash sponge that I use with ONR. I stupidly used the yellow/rough side on my wheels and now I'm afraid to use it for my next wash. How can I wash out the brake dust? I use the black side on my paint, so brake dust shouldn't be on that side, but I want to make sure I get it all out. I threw it in the washing machine w detergent.....anything else I should do?

Optimum advertises it to be used as you did. I think I'd have 2. One for paint and one for wheels.
