Washing microfiber towels - revisited

Do you prefer the silk, cloth, hammered, or no edge? :)

Uhhhhh..... "hammered edge"? :dunno:

Figure you're talking about "hemmed", right?

I've never had a problem with any towel that has a silk and/or soft cloth edge. It's about how you hold it when doing your work and not letting the edges dig in.

I have the Costco Kirkland gold towels that have a fairly rough sewn edge and even they'll work on stupid hard paint (if you're in a big bind).

I've found I can do most anything with the 360GSM towels, from compound removal all the way to LSP (sealant) removal. Ian does have some ultra-fine thread 400GSM towels that are baby hair soft! If I were buying another case now I'd probably buy either those or the 500GSM ultra-fine units.

The hemmed edge towels I only have a few of, and those came from either samples sent to me or other forum members have sent them. By and large I'll have a silk edge on everything but my gray edgeless Korean 500's. There are also some 360GSM "zero edge" towels that look promising, however 30 being about $73 versus 30 of the regular "silk edged" being $59 it's a no brainer. That being said, the hemmed edge 360's are also $73 for 30 so you might want to consider them. Best I can tell both sides are the same pile depth. That however is a dual edged sword as the dual-plush towels have a 'deep' side and a 'flat' (shallow) side and that deep (looped pile) side will be more plush on the dual-plush units than the ones that have the same looped pile on both sides.

Were I spending $70+ for 30 towels I'd not opt for either of the two higher priced units above, and instead would be seriously looking at the ultra-fine 400gsm units for what, $76 and change. :props: The REAL STEAL right now in my book would actually be those 500GSM ultra-fine units that are on sale. Getting a towel of that quality for under $3.00 (although you have to buy 30) is totally INSANE! I might actually prefer those over the Korean edgeless 500's, (and THAT ---- is saying A LOT). There are a couple similar quality towels in 6-pack's to be found just a click or two away, that are $35~$40 for SIX, ($200 for 30). That makes the others even that much better of a deal. ;)

Thanks for the detailed posts, Tony, lots of food for thought!

I have stacks of Kirkland Golds, a whole bunch of quality Sino-Korean Cobras and Woobies, and now have a stack of Korean TRCs and CP FastGlass towels coming my way.

Wow, thanks for the speedy reply Tony and thanks for clarifying that for me.

And yes I was talking about hemmed…. damn auto spelling. grrrrrrr.

I just bough a few MF's from MFT and costco a couple weeks ago but will more then likely be getting a few more come this xmas.
