Washing your car in your driveway a new crime!

The People's Republic of Kalifornia.

A nice place to visit.........

Let's hope this type of nonsense does not spread.

You ain't lying. I live in Northern California (San Francisco). We have city regulations that are absolutely absurd.

Beyond the "Car Washing" issue..... In the name of "Green", all retail stores were forced to charge customers 10 cents per paper bag (the city banned the use of plastic). This include grocery stores, department stores, and all mom and pop shops in between.

I could get a fine for having a leaky sprinkler on my lawn in less than 13 days but the city sprinklers in Golden Gate Park could run full blast night and day for weeks before repairs were made.

I work in Downtown SF and the streets are power-wash (Gasoline powered pressure washer) weekly. There are no attempts from the city to capture the waste water. It just goes straight down the city sewer line. With the ever-growing homeless problems here, one can imagine the content mixture of the waste water. Double standards?????

I have LOTSA comments but none would fit into Mikes request to "be mindful of what you say" lol

:iagree:

California is run by people that resemble the politicians we have here in Europe. All I can say is: don't go that way!

My master planned community has a ban on washing cars with a hose. I use the two bucket method with the garage door closed.

Try to have a professional "discussion" that is on topic.

This isn't the same great country I grew up in (50's 60's 70's). I still love her, but now were nanny-ed from cradle to grave by gov-co. And you know what the sad thing is... it didn't have to be this way :/

Don't know about every county in California, but in my county (Los Angeles), I wash my car as often as I like (average once a week) and when I go to the grocery store I walk out with plastic bags. But I agree with y8s, those two actions are hurting the environment and if you don't believe that then you're missing something.

P.S. I love living here, I've never come across a regulation that has prevented me from doing what I want to do and the weather is without equal. Nuff said. ;)

Washing your car in your driveway is a crime...

Minnetonka said:
Minnetonka, Minnesota has their own vehicle law, which makes it illegal to drive a dirty truck in their town. The city founders consider it a public nuisance to have a dirty vehicle and have made it illegal for a truck or other motor vehicle to have wheels or tires that deposit mud, dirt, litter, sticky substances or any other materials onto the street or highway. They have made the choice to have a clean truck or vehicle easy in Minnetonka Minnesota by facing a fine of up to $2,000.

Dammed if you do, dammed if you don't :dunno:

I live in West Los Angeles.

I will continue to wash my cars in my driveway whenever I want. But behind a closed and locked gate. No water runs down my driveway to the street, so nobody can see what I am washing.

But I did manage to decrease my water useage by roughly 80%

I have stopped watering my lawns. Both front and back lawns are now dead in the summer and fall, and nice and green when they get rained on. And I didn't do this to conserve water, but to lower my city sewer fee to something reasonable. Even though no water runs off my lawn into the sewer, I was still being charged 2X what my water cost me for the sewer fee.
No lawn watering, no sewer fee. It dropped from $271.00 for two months down to $12.16 for two months.

And I have to order all my ammo from out of the LA area, AND have it shipped to an address outside of the city of LA.

So, to boil it down. Los Angeles = no car washing, no ammo, no plastic shopping bags, no fireworks, NO NUTIN!

Here in Southern Minnesota we are in a severe drought, hence no car washin' is allowed (along with other restrictions).

BUT, because of the lower use of water (that is MANDATED), water rates are going UP to offset the lose of revenue.

Go figure.

Bill

Now, if only 'Meguiar's Wash and Wax Anywhere' was available locally (closest availability is 50 miles away) I'd be set.

The next law they pass will make it illegal to have a dirty car.

Illegal to have a dirty car, yet illegal to do anything about it. We need more people in prison for non-violent crimes!! Yay for Liberty!!

EDIT: vet, I take it you're a veteran? Are these the freedoms you fought for?

And to think, after many bad experiences at 100% hand car washes, I have just decided to do it all myself (I live in So OC of SoCal).

I only live in the nanny state because my wife has to as a job requirement. I have to admit, I did get tired of having to shovel snow in sub 0° weather.

As stated above, things were sure different during the '50s, '60s, and '70s.

Look at this as a "golden time" in Cali. I know one party gained enough seats in both legislative houses to meet the required super majority to raise taxes. In a few years you won't have enough money to own a car much less worry about it being clean. Not that history should be a guide or anything on how pols love to spend money.

Sad thing is... If I woke up tomorrow, and red meat was illegal here. I wouldn't be surprised. :(

We had some water restrictions here on Indiana this past summer because of the drought. Didn't really need to was our cars because they never got dirty but I did use a bunch of waterless wash with the garage door closed :).

Here in Pakistan, Government passed a law recently which compelled to shut most of the service stations meant for washing vehicles across the country in order to curb the dengue outbreak by checking the growth of dengue mosquitoes in stagnant clean water.

You know..... when you start looking for such small stuff it can only mean 2 things:
Either you're trying to get your attention off the main issue and make some easy money to the government.
Or it's time to cut the responsible agency funds as they are overdoing it........ (simcity touch me that). "=]

My HOA would fine me if I washed my car; unless it was Tuesday or Thursday...I hate HOA's
