Water Filteration Kit Worth It????

Something I'm rarely accused of-- a very simplistic explanation;

Reverse Osmosis (RO) – the water system inlet takes water to a pre-cleaner sediment filter, then it is passed through a membrane, which captures the minerals and has to be flushed constantly to wash the minerals from the membrane, and then on to the water outlet to drain. It requires up to 10-15 gallons producing 1-gallon of pure water. The RO system is slow and not very energy efficient due to its water requirements as opposed to its output of pure water (i.e. 1500 raw water to produce 100 gallons RO water)

Ive been thinking about putting a large sediment filter before the CR system to make it last longer. What do you think?

Garden Hose Filters with Higher Part # GH200. Then one of these cartridges, Filter Cartridges — 2.5" X 20"

I was thinking the same thing, but not the same products as you posted. I was just going to use a filter localy from Home Depot just to help out. I'm going to try it out with out the extra filter as it may not be needed but in the long run I think the extra regular filter should help out. The reason I'm hesitant is becuase the regular filter that I was thinking of purchasing may not help becuase it's such a cheap little thing that I really don't think it will do anything. But the one you posted look good, I still question the cartridges though...well I just don't know enough about the cartridges that's all. The filter that I was thinking of purchasing localy has the same cartridge and I looked at it and it just didn't inspire confience...to me that is.

How good are those Garden Hose Filters and the cartridges? I honestly didn't look in to it to much. Who know's maybe it will make a difference.

Well the one I got from AG doesnt really do anything. Problem is its too small. I guess youll have to drop the GPM to about 1- 1.5 AT MOST for it to be useful. Keep in mind regular hoses seem to put out 8GPM without a nozzle. So I figure the bigger one will allow the water to be exposed to the filter longer, thus being more effective. So it would be a total of 3 20" filters, going through at 2.5GPM. The 20" CR system is good for up to 4GPM. So should be VERY efficient.

Dan, what you say is very true. Good point, Chuck actually recommended one but he told me it wasen't really needed. The only thing that an additional filter will do is help the spotless filters last longer, giving them that extra life span as they won't have to work as hard. Maybe I should look in to it a bit more, but like you said you would have to find one that matches well with the spotless system.

Yeah, Im pretty confident that the 20" system will get TDS under 25. How long it lasts is a different story. And that resin refill is expensive! How long it lasts also depends how hard your water is right now. Mine is around 285- 295. Ill let you experiment with it though. Ill only be able to use my system for about 3 weeks.

Really 3 weeks, wow. I actually don't know how hard the water is around here...not good from what I've heard from another member near by. I can't recall the exact number it was close to your numbers or where they higher? Well I'll find out soon. So three weeks huh hhhhhmmmmmm....mmmmm.
