First, Thanks for all of your input. It has been very enlighting at least to me. From the info that I have been able to gather on the internet, the deionization process is a very pricey one. I guess my thought is to the average guy, is the additional cost worth it just to insure there are no water spots on a vehicle. I'm not trying to play the "bad" guy here. Just thinking is all.

Well, deionization CAN be pricey for the average joe. But it really boils down to the amount of flow and capacity you want to pay for. A small system can be very affordable (By affordable, I mean approx $100-150) to the average joe, but you obviously wont be able to push 10 gallons per minute through it, and you may have to change the ion exchange resin out every few washes. (Not a big deal). A larger capacity system (what i desingned and use for myself right now, and what I would consider $200+) can be affordable for the average DIY'er, assuming you know what and where to look. For professional detailers, the price is recouped by the time saved, and the impact on customer satisfaction.
Personally, with my new car, I want nothing but the best for it, so I'll wash with deionized water forever. Let's face it, pretty much everyone on this forum buys the best equipment and products to care for their vehicle, but the water we wash with is on the back of everyones mind.
I would advise anyone intrested in deionization to research alot on google, ebay, etc. Just to get an idea of whats out there and available. Unfortunately, there's not much "plug and play" ready to go DI equipment on the net, so research and an engineers mindset is critical. Again, I do this for a living, and have access to equipment to design/ make any size DI system I've described, and the knowledge that goes with it.
