Water Spot Issues after Coatings are applied and how Paint reacts to hot and cold temperatures

As the above poster stated a coating is just as likely to be damaged as your clear coat. The difference is that it takes the brunt of the damage.

Think of it like this, this is how I explain it to my clients . A coating is like a screen protector, it goes over your clear coat(screen) and it protects it's current state (clean, dirty, scrarched) it will lock in that state until it wears off over time. The coating(screen protector) still needs to be cleaned regularly and still gets scratched and dinged BUT it takes the majority of the abuse. The coating like the screen protector can only do so much so things can still get through and damage what's underneath

I think the screen protector analogy makes sense except for one thing: you can peel off a screen protector easily when you want to start anew. Vehicle coatings don't seem to work that way. Then you run into questions of what you're correcting and if you're digging into clear coat to make sure all of the coating is removed.

Are there coatings out there that polish out like clearcoat does, using normal products/pads? If so that could be an interesting approach. Correct only as much as needed, even if you're only correcting the coating itself, or part of the coating and part of the clear coat, or whatever.
