I am looking for a electric pump for my water tank to wash cars. However the issue will be when I stop and go during the washing process. Anyone know of a pump that is made to handle this?

You mean a pump that's made to turn on and off?

Maybe you'd better tell us a few more details of your system.

I have a 65 gallon tank. I am looking to use an electric water pump to siphon the water out. It will then connect to a hose with a spray nozzle. So when I am not using the spray nozzle, back pressure builds up on the pump. From what I am reading this will damage and electric water pump. I am looking for one that can handle this task.

Karcher makes pressure washers that will draw from a standing water source.

That may be a great option for you.

Grab an "on demand" 12 v pump, pump will operate when nozzle is open and shut off when closed.

Im trying to stay away from gas powered pressure washers. I spent a lot of money on my Honda generator. So im trying to put that to use for now.

How did we get talking about gas-powered pressure washers? Did I miss a post?

Setec Astronomy: So far you have done nothing but take jabs at me! I could really use some help with this. So if you are not going to help please stop replying to this thread.

People are trying to help you but it's very difficult. You got a suggestion for a Karcher pressure washer that will draw from your tank, but somehow your reaction is that you are trying to stay away from gas pressure washers, when Karcher makes primarily electric machines, and certainly that is what they are best known for.

You also got the answer about an "on demand" pump, but you seemed to choose to ignore that. Anyway, good luck.

Here, these threads may help you:

I have several high end electric pressure washers. Unfortunately they are not good at siphoning water from my tank. I was told that I would need a gas powered pressure washer for it to work properly. I will look into the on demand electric water pump. Thanks for your help guys.

Karcher are cheap they will fail on the job. I had 4 Karchers in as many months. One failure cost me a client. I spent $480 on a MiTM at Amazon. That was in Sepember. It has never failed, works every day. Any night it gets close to freezing I put a space heater in the truck to make sure it is ok. The MiTM WILL NOT PULL FROM A TANK. I have a Chapion generator that is duel fuel. So I removed the gas tank mounted a 35 gallon water tank on top of the genny. Gravity does the rest. Works perfect with a foam cannon. It also flows 1.5 gym so you can use DI water. However I have decided to use RO water because it is better. The next thing is to put a tankless water heater.

MiTM you have one or you need one.

It souns to me that if you just use an electric water pump that runs constantly then you will need a pressure relief valve that will route the water back to the tank.

That's only if you're using a positive displacement pump vs. centrifugal.

Llively...from an outsider's view reading this thread, Setec Astronomy's posts didn't sound anywhere close to taking jabs at you. He was spending his time getting additional information to better customize the perfect answer to solve your problem for you. I think you received it differently than it was intended. He's a good guy and maybe acknowledge that.

No need for that, he better explained what he was doing and I think he's getting the info he was looking for, I know this problem has come up many times and there's probably a lot more threads about it than the ones I was able to quickly find and link. I unfortunately don't have a good solution for the problem, because I haven't set up a mobile tank like the ones described.

Thanks guys for your help! I think I am going to try an electric on demand pump. Not sure what brand yet...

ShurFlo is the only option, in my opinion. In my mobile rig, I have a 100 gallon water tank, Karcher k5.740 electric pressure washer, and a ShurFlo on-demand pump that I wired into a socket in my van, and then put a switch on it.
My pressure washer and pump are only running when I pull the trigger on the wand.
Hope this helps you.
