There might be a thread somewhere that answers this question, but I can't find it.
When do you use a QD and when do you use a waterless wash? From what I can tell, it seems they're essentially the same thing.

A QD is appropriate to remove light dust or an occasional bird bomb from clean paint. A waterless wash will have stronger cleaners to remove road film but designed to encapsulate the dirt without scratching (with proper application/wiping).

Agree 100% with longdx.

It also varies by product. For example, some Waterless Wash products leave a bit of protection behind, some don't. Some QD's leave protection behind, and some don't.

QD is typically to boost the shine of the paint in between waxing. Waterless Wash is good for cleaning up the paint in between washes but they are not an alternative to a regular car wash when the vehicle is very dirty.

I agree as well.

QD is not recommended at all as a replacement for washing. I only use it as a final wipe when washing, or to wipe down areas that cant be washed such as door jams. I have found that using a waterless system does induce scratches though. And most waterless systems have waxes and cleaners in them. But no matter what technique I have used they still ended up leaving scratches in most instances.

If your looking for a quick cleaner I would suggest using "no rinse" formula. Using the two bucket system with a no rinse is a great way to clean without inducing scrathes.

Since my car is black, I am a freak about road dust. Everytime I come home from any kind of driving, I just use a Cobra microfiber and Pinnacle QD to wipe the dust off. Of course that makes half of the microfiber dirty because the dust actually sticks to the microfiber. I use a quarter of the microfiber for half of my car, and a quarter for the other half. This all takes about 15-20 minutes. Easy.

I use the waterless wash if there is heavy dust/other junk. Its more of a WASH rather than a quick clean up. That sort of explained it, just my methods of using em
