Hi Mike,

New home detailer here. I just picked up a lot of great products from your store , and Im having a problem with removing Type II etched waterspots even after compounding.

Background:
  • Car: 2001 Corvette. Metalic red paint. Same paint color as in your Type II picture you used in your water spots thread (see below).
  • Type of Waterspot: Type II, etched in paint.
  • What Ive tried to remove them: Washed Car, Tar Remover, Iron Remover, Clay Bar, DA Polisher with Orange Lake Country Pads with Meguiars Ultimate Compound
  • Ive went over a sample area about 10 separate times with the DA, Orange Lake Country Pads and Megs Ultimate Compound, and it's not making a dent in them. Paint seems very hard.

Do you have any recommendations?

Should I try a more aggressive compound? If so, could you recommend a few from your store? I like the Meguairs brand if there is a good choice from them. If not, Im open to the best choice.

Should I try a more aggressive pad? I bought quite a few orange ones so I would like to stick with them and just bump up the compound if possible.

Is there a better way to remove these etched Type II waterspots other than DA polishing? Another chemical?

The pictures below match my Type II water spots. Funny enough they are the exact same color as my car. They are copied from your other thread on water spots.

Very much appreciate your insight!:dblthumb2:

Yes, more aggression is needed. Corvette clear is hard. What DA are you using? Microfiber May be in order?

Hi Billy, Thank you for the insight! I am using Griots new G9 DA Polisher. Are there any Microfiber pads that you recommend for a beginner?

I would try a more aggressive compound with your orange LC pads before moving on to the MF pads.

Try Meg's 101.

Hi Rsurfer, thank you for the recommendation! Do you think Megs 101 with the Orange Lake Country Pads would work ok, or should I choose a different pad?

Least aggressive first, and a test area.

I had a similar situation not too long ago. Orange pad, even with Fast Correcting Cream didn’t remove. Switching to micro fiber pad and using same compound took it right out. I have used both Meguiar’s cutting disc and the Boss MF pad in the past, both work fine.

3D One might work from what I'm reading (I'm about to order to test out cause, hey boredom!). Polish is abrasive but can finish down nicely for a 3 step job (compound, polish, LSP). Maybe give that a shot? Mike did a great thread about it.

Hi OldRed,

Sorry for the late reply, i was offline Saturday late afternoon.

Like others have said, you need to bump up to a microfiber pad.

Fibers are abrasives

A microfiber pad on a DA will dramatically increase the cut ability of the tools and any compound.

In my opinion and experience, Type II Water Spots are the WORST type of defect to have to remove. Right behind it are Tracers and Pigtails.
