Wax Based Antirust on Firewall...Assist

Hello, I was wondering about removing some wax based antirust off of the firewall of an '08 HHR SS. The turbo is near this and am wondering what product to use and what type of protectiion I should use for the engine and turbo. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Haven't contacted the Manufacturer. The fit is very tight and limited room to reach the area. New tech engines are stuffed in there LOL. No pics srry. Anti rust is dried out and a little crispy if you know what I mean from engine heat too.

Well I hear you on the tight fit for engine in new cars... think about every time I climb into my engine compartment, get comfortable and wipe the motor down... :D


Maybe try a stiff bristle nylon brush, like this?

Two Way Mini Detailing Brush

Or a Plastic Razor Blade?

I'd try something like spraying it down with water, then spraying some simple green/foaming degreaser and let it sit. Then take a scrub brush to it and see if that takes it off. Maybe a plastic putty knife if it is flaky.

I assume your engine bay looks like this?

If so, I would use some sort of sealant like klasse high gloss on the valve cover and any exposed paint. Everything else (hoses/wires/reservoirs) i'd wipe down with a simple dressing like meg's #40.
 
Yes, that is an LNF engine, it didn't look like that factory on mine, but it looks very similar. The turbo sits to the right of the windshield washer fluid reservoir on the left side of that picture. (The turbo is what that pipe is going into from the silver box, and what that pipe is coming out of to the right that goes across the entire engine). I'm kind of confused as to why anyone would want to remove that coating on the firewall though?
 
Man I read the title again and again .... I really thought it was some new law in regards to car waxes !
 
If it's the material I think it is, try 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner, or some body prep solvent (Meg's Body Solvent maybe?), or anything of that sort.
 
Yes that's the engine. Down the left centre is the antirust overspray. Thanks for the info and the pic. I'll try a few of the ideas and get back to all. Thanks!!
