Wax for use With Meg 7

Evening everyone ,

I am new to this great forum and have been reading much with great interest . My car is finished in single coat red and the paint is not in bad order . I have been using Meguiars 7 which really works nicely , after 2 weeks or so it starts to lose it's zing. I have tried a "hard" carnuba wax over this to try and keep the results longer ( I can't recall name but I don't think it's anything special) but when I apply this it doesn't go well - it is difficult to remove and becomes somewhat cloying. Would anybody be kind enough to advise me on what wax I should use over the Meg 7 ?

personally I'm a huge fan of the dodo juice range of waxes. they're extremely user friendly and kind on the wallet. you could also try a spray sealant instead of a wax. id recommend a water based one such as dodo juice acrylic spritz, as these tend to give fewer interference issues than spirit based ones.

I second the recommendation for Meguiars #26. Generally, when removal of a product is difficult, it is an indication you applied the product too thick. A very thin application is all that is needed. Easier to remove and you use far less product.
 
just reporting back on this , the 7 showcar glaze works really well and gives a lovely deep gloss red but when the 26 is applied over the top you can immediately see the paint dull and almost haze , it is like there is some sort of reaction , I for the most part have just been using Meg 7 on it's own but I would like to get a decent combination for longevity has anyone encountered this ? , tried to show in picture but not easy to capture

Possibly not wiped good enough to remove the oils left behind from M7.
 
Ill second that. I was having problems with a few waxes leaving residue on my paint a couple of months back because of improper wiping. Make sure theyre quality microfibre towels as well.. around 350-400 gsm.

I know exactly what you are talking about and I don't think you'll find an answer here. Actually the reason I say that is because there is no answer.

I read all the time about guys praising this wax or that wax and how great the shine is but from my experience no wax will shine as much as Megs #7 (or other true glazes) alone.

I spent a good part of my life doing show quality paint. Many of those paint jobs were finished with Megs #3 and Megs #7 glazes and I've always found that the shine, depth, clarity and distinctness of image (DOI) of the paint was at its peak before applying any wax. The wax always knocks those characteristics down a notch.

The wax gives the protection but for that protection you'll sacrifice a touch of appearance.

thanks for the replies , I am going to do a test on a smaller area of the bonnet today , I am hoping that this will improve , but I have a feeling 2black1s is on the money , I will endeavour to capture some better images with my camera , the way it looks is to my mind not really acceptable .

So thin that it almost appears like you're not applying anything.
 
A quick update , I have cleaned the roof back with a good wash and a small amount of compound , then to 1/2 of it I carefully applied Meg 7 and removed well , then a very small amount of 26 again removed well and at present it is deep red and gleaming :drool: , hopefully it will stay that way for a while , what duration do you expect between applications ? and is this the best way I can to look after the SS Red ? or should I also consider a sealant ?

Thanks to everyone that has advised me , the weird thing was my Meg 7 has no instructions on the back ! :confused:
So your input has really helped ,

I have fully polished and carefully removed Meg 7 from roof this morning followed by a nice thin coat of 26 and I feel the results are way improved , will keep at it , as you guys have mentioned previously there is a definitely a technique required here ,
is what I am using perfect for my straight red or could I add anything else to the mix for more longevity ?
