I am new to detailing and have been having issues with what I think is left over polish or wax residue.
I use a portercable 7424xp polisher and have the meguires microfiber da kit. After I do the polishing and waxing the car looks great in a garage but once pulled in to the sun it has swirls. Not holograms but swirls how it looks when the wax is applied with the da. But all polish and wax has been removed. Am I not letting the wax set long enough? It seems to wipe off with a quick detailer.

Pictures?

Could be swirls that you saw in the sun? Usually wax/polish residue is hazy to a point.

Probably swirls that were not removed through the correction process. Proper lighting is of uptmost importance when polishing paint. The sun can be a very cruel sometimes. Of course all of this is speculation without pictures. If it is a residue on the paint, my guess would be too much product was used. "Thin is in"

edit: Welcome to AGO!!!

Agreed on this one.

"but swirls how it looks when the wax is applied with the da. But all polish and wax has been removed": missing spots inside the garage?

Some products leaves traces like that. I have same problems with Meguiars' , as you say, QD will remove them.

Hope this help.

You just went to fast. Take your time and get the swirls out before you hit it with wax. When I get tired and into it for 6-9 hrs u start to to go to fast and don't completely remove all the swirls. Just take a break and come back to it and do it correctly. Then you shouldn't see any swirls. The wax residue can be removed with a whole new clean MF towel. Use many towels. Don't be scared to wash them. They also have mf bonnets to remove wax with the machine which makes it real easy. Then just use a MF towel after and you will be happy.
