Here is the situation, new to me 2003 Caddy Deville. Paint is in very good condition and I was wondering wheather to use a wax like Gold class or the Klasse system, or something else. I live in a pretty harsh environment on an island in Florida, hot most of the time, extreme sun, lots of rain, and worst of all, the salt air from the Gulf of Mexico. I don't have the time to wax every 3 months or so, or spend alot of money on very expensive waxes. Please advise on best protection please. The car will be waxed by hand. THX

If you don't have time to wax often a paint sealant is your best bet. Wax tends to last only a few weeks where I live (Mass) paint sealant will be your best alternative. Paint sealants can last up to 6 months, depending on where your car sleeps, and how much asphalt it sees..

I have no personal experience as I'm just starting out on sealants, but if you read the threads here and on other sites Duragloss, Blackfire, Menzerna Power Lock, and Ultima are all repeatedly mentioned as some of the long lasting sealants. For extra protection you might also want to add a top coat of Collinite 845 wax - also mentioned as one of the longest lasting waxes (cheap too!).

:iagree: Awfully difficult to argue with this statement.. :props:

:iagree:

I personally use Menz Power lock topped with Collinite 845 for my winter prep! Still beading after 2 + months of the harsh New England weather.

I'll back this up with 5 months on my truck and I'm just a few miles South of Jason...:props:

Thanks for the replies so far, I see most of y'all are from up north. In the summer here the car gets so hot you can't touch it, might be tough to get any wax to last that long given the conditions here.

Don't worry I'm sure you'll get some of the southern folks chiming in soon. We have a lot of people here from Florida, Cali, Texas, etc. So you'll be able to get their opinions as well.

That's because there's no jobs up here and all we have to do is cruse the Internet all day..

Seriously, where Jason and I live in Mass we typically see temps near and over 100 degrees F for days on end in June, July, August, and September. I'm not trying to compare New England's weather with Florida but we have some of the harshest and widest ranging weather in the country.......maybe even the planet for that matter.

Read the threads on Collinite 845. This was developed as an insulator wax for the electrical industry. It is repeatedly mentioned as a very hi temp, corrosion resistant wax. I doubt you'd have a prob with this stuff in Death Valley.

Wolfgang deep gloss sealant for hot months and collinite 476 for cold months

Speaking from Florida, I would suggest using Klasse instead of Gold Class (of the two you mentioned). My favorite sealant, durability-wise would be DP Poli-Coat. It's reasonably priced (On sale right now, but still reasonable when not) and it lasts quite a long time. Collinite's 845 would be my way to go for a durable wax. I currently have 845 on my outboard motor and it's been doing real well against the saltwater.

Any sealant you like topeed with 845 will work great for about 5 to 6 months protection in the environment you describe.
I use BFWD topped with 845 on my jet skis. I do that once a year right before the season starts IE water warms up. I live in SoCal, Jet skis are stored April thru August at the Colorado river on ride up ramps in the water so to speak. Never come out until August at which time I drag them home and use them in the ocean until @October with an occasional river trip thrown in. Again one coat BFWD and one coat 845 lasts whole season, no issues, still beads and sheets and easy to clean with just spray downs from a hose. That should suffice for a car which I assume would get better care than my skis but their purposes to to ride and ride hard all season long.

I live in Naples FL. I have found good quality Sealants to last longer then I am willing to keep them on for. I enjoy trying out different products every month or two though. Something like duragloss total performance polish Duragloss Total Performance Polish (TPP) # 105 will work great for you. Collinite will as well I am sure but I have not tried it.

After every wash, spray the car with duragloss aquawax as a booster and you should be golden. Duragloss Aquawax (AW) #951
