wax question

Thanks guy's I've never clayed a black car before I did a green mustang I used to havebut never used aanything other than was afterwards. How much better will a black car look after claying polishing and waxing?

The difference is amazing.

In my experience, I've not noticed a change in appearance in a black car after claying like I have lighter colors. However, you will be able to feel the difference! Polishing is where the real difference is made and waxing is icing on the cake.

When my black car was new, it was in pretty good shape from the dealership since I convinced them to not wash or prep it. It was late Fall at the time, so I simply clayed, glazed, and waxed it and dug in for the winter. When Spring rolled around the paint was still in pretty good shape, but after a thorough detailing to include claying and polishing, the difference was stunning. My wife and kids even noticed and commented!

Sorry just noticed I misspelled a lot of words I sent it from my cellphone I was saying I've clayed a green mustang I used to have and only waxed afterwards I never polished a vehicle then waxed I know black is one of the best looking colors clean and kept that way I was just wondering how much of a difference polishing after claying then following up with a coat or two of wax will make

In my opinion it really adds to the depth and clarity of the paint. I am sure one of the more experienced detailers on here can add a lot more to that or correct me.

Most of the shine will come from the prep stages namely claying and polishing after a wash. I started with Mothers and Meguiars in the beginning as they were easy to find off the shelf items and never knew of other products and thought at the time these were the best. I then found Menzerna and Collinite and boy was I impressed. Get yourself Power Lock and/or Collinite cause trust me inevitably you will end up doing so anyways. I have almost full bottles of all Megs LSP's and everytime I reach for a wax/sealant on any of family members cars I always try to reach for the Megs as I still have so much, but then my conscience pricks me and I finish their cars off with PL or 845/915 as I want that little bit extra. I cant seem to find any car to put my Megs on argh...

Is it really worth basically double the price plus shipping and then waiting all the time to get the collinite waxes?

For the looks and durability? Yes, will save you time and money long term

The Collinite is only around $15 depending on whether you hit a sale here or not, so it isn't that expensive. If you combine it with other products you need, it's not bad at all.

Keep in mind Collinite goes on REALLY thin and a bottle will last a long time. I've done my hatchback and my wife's SUV twice and I've barely made it down to the top of the "C" on the label. When you combine the 6-month durability, ease of use, and great look it's not hard to justify.

My problem now is I'm starting to look at 915, but I've still got a decade's worth of 845 on the shelf.

the 915 is $33.99 I think the Meguiars Ultimate Paste Wax I've used for year is around $21.33 at work then 10% off with my discount. But I've heard a lot of good things about the Collinite 915 though

Not to knock Menzerna and Collinite, but Megs Ultimate are incredible values for the money, work great, look great, and are available OTC just about everywhere. The only thing they don't have is any cachet.

I can get the insulator wax at Advance Auto Parts here in NE Ohio

To be honest, I would actually just stick with Meg's Ultimate paste, and then use a spray wax like Meg's ultimate quik wax as a booster product during your weekly or biweekly washes. I find this combo has been working well for me, and I recommend this because you said you have a price constraint. I find Meg's ultimate paste is a very good product that goes on easy and comes off easy, looks good and so far the durability using the ultimate quik wax combo is great. You can find their spray wax over the counter on sale for less than $10. If you're really looking to branch out and try a completely new wax, collinite 476, 845 or 915 are excellent choices. But even with those products I use a booster spray wax in between washes. It's up to how much you want to spend.

I agree. I use the Meguiar's Ultimate line a lot. Sometimes, I'll use a Duragloss sealant after the Ultimate Polish, then there are times I wont.. I love Duragloss 111.

If you have a black car, Meguiar's Black Wax works and is inexpensive. If you want high end, Chemical Guys or Pinnacle are top notch but expensive. They last longer too...
