Wax won't come off car

I'm glad you shared your experience with the rest of us. Never know when this will happen to someone else (and it will) in one fashion or another.

Glad you got it to workout for you.

I can't help but think that a bucket of water, almost too hot to touch (hottest you can stand with a good rubber glove on), mixed with a strong mixture of soap and apc would have worked. The heated water alone should have sufficed in removing the bulk of that wax, imo.

I would have probably tried that first and if that wouldn't have gotten the bulk of the wax off, then I'd have tried Mike's comments.

Glad it worked out for you.

When I was 16-18 I remember applying Simoniz paste wax like that, more is better right ?. Then I spent the rest of the day removing it and knowing it was well protected.

if you have a DA, get a plush microfiber plant a clean pad of choice on top of it and put the DA on a low setting and give that a try. spritz the area with a mist of detail spray might help also. at least that is what i would do.

Tough lesson learned. Now you know not to apply 1000 times more wax than is needed. Lots of edge/cracks clean up to go yet.

What gets me is the totally random application pattern.

I was noticing that too, in some places it kind of looked like a bad tribal tattoo.

Everybody makes mistakes but the important thing is to minimize the damage. The best way to do this is to do a test spot just like when you polish the paint. If something doesn't seem right try rereading the instructions, applying the product a little bit thinner, or try using some QD for wipe off.

There are a ton of tricks and tips on the forum so just soak in as much information as you can.

I can't stress how important it is to follow the manufacture's directions. I am very much guilty of this one, saying to myself its just another wax or sealant I know what I am doing and who needs directions.

So just like you I have learned from my mistakes.

Think that's hard to remove...way back when 1992, I was 16 and my first car, a black 1984 Camaro. I washed and waxed it EVERY day during the summer. The first time I did it, I washed and used Turtle Wax rubbing compound the in red plastic tub and then polishing compound in the green tub and then paste wax, ALL in the SUN. The wax was so thick, it took me 3 days to get it off the car!
Talk about learning the hard way

Am I the only one that thinks this is about the most epic thread this year?

It has to rank right up there and some of us will admit doing the same thing. We all learn.
The picture is epic tho.

:iagree:

I was thinking the same thing. Props to this guys for having the balls to post this. Clearly not the most experienced detailer & a mistake was made. Been there done that! Now - I love this forum but sometimes people do forget that not everyone is as good as they think they are & tend to point & laugh instead of help fix the problem.

OP - pleased it worked out for you. :xyxthumbs:

That is exactly how I applied my Chemical Guys Jetseal sealant (3 Times so far!).. My white car turned grey after full application...
I thought more the better. I was able to rub it off in about 1+ hour though , very tiring....

I then purchased Griot BOSS, and able to get a good even application , and used less of the sealant.
