waxed new lexus and now its chipping

I don't think it's the products you used. Those products sit on the surface not seep beneath the paint. Paint is bonded to the surface below and if it isn't prepped properly then you get chipping. Poor quality paint and primer can cause it too.

I agree with everyone here that it's a paint issue and not the Meguires products

Bobby, when you say "worst paint" could you further elaborate it? a lot of orange peel? thin paint? easy to rust or its something else?

I am not a fan of Toyota (in fact I swear I would never buy one).
As I live in Asia, Toyota is the most popular car brand here. It is like 6 out of 10 cars here is Toyota. However the paint of Toyota doesnt seem to have an issue from what I see..

Both Toyota's were new and while the finish looks gorgeous from the factory it scratches and chips VERY easily under normal use.

Unlike many other manufactures orange-peal was almost non existent which did impress me. My Z06 Corvette has allot more orange-peal than either Toyota.

I was surprised at the lack of tolerance or robustness of their finishes to normal use and driving.

its happening over the entire body, not just the hood. I know the car hasn't had any aftermarket spray work done.
If it is happening to the entire car bring it back and ask for another on .
you may want to stay away from the pearl paints if this is a problem Lexus is having. and choose a nice metallic or single stage color like black.
Good Luck

I'm sorry to hear you guys have had bad luck with Lexus/Toyota Paint

My family and myself have had no problems with paint

My dad had a 96 Lexus Sedan - no problems - pearl white
I have a 98 Toyota Tacoma - no problems - white
My brother has a 99 4 Runner - no problems - silver
My dad had a 2001 Lexus Rx-300 no problems - white
My mom has a 2003 Camry - no problems - tan/gold
My finance has a 2008 4 runner - no problems - black

The car after meguiars 3 step waxing process. It continues to worsen each day. I have stopped driving it in the meantime.

The car BEFORE I used the meguiars 3 step kit which included cleaner, polish and carnuaba wax compound. It was flawless! My wife and I have never been so excited to buy a car just to see it ruined and have both lexus and meguiars turn their backs to us. AGAIN, the car is a 2007 and was flawless up until application.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was a repaint.

If you are not the original owner I wouldn't have the expectation of the manufacturer doing anything. Unless of course it was still under warranty.

I'm sorry to hear all the bad news.

The owners are family friends... I've known them for years. I was one of the first people to see the car when my friends dad purchased it for her.

Did the previous owner use the Turtle Wax Black Box kit by chance? Maybe that hid the chips. Also, what is your driving environment like? Do you follow close to large trucks? Do you live on a gravel road? Maybe you didn't notice the chips before because they were filled with dirt and after using the paint cleaner it removed the dirt making the chips stand out.

Let me guess. Meguiars blamed Lexus and Lexus blamed Meguairs?

Sorry this has happened to you . My almost 2 year old toyota has several bumper chips and it seems every time I drive the freeway it gets more. But nothing like what your pictures show.

Only one chip in the hood though. I dont do too much freeway driving, thats where I get mine from .

Ive hand wash the car since day one. The chips range in size from pin head to a couple milimeters in diameter - it's something anyone would have noticed even if they had been filled with black turtle wax or white mequiars wax. And besides, the CONTINUE to worsen.

You might wanna read the warranty for the paint yourself. Ask the dealer to provide the documentation. Do some research and make sure there isn't a chance it could be covered by warranty. I believe many manufactures warranty the paint for longer than a standard warranty but don't quote me on that.

The dealer could be using the Megs as an exuse not to do anything. I would have never brought that up.

Read the warranty and come up with a game plan. Maybe you need to take to a different dealer.

Good Luck

My bet is the dealer put some sort of concealing product on it that hid the damage, which was removed when you detailed it. He is trying to deny blame. Try to find the original owner of the car, maybe through car-fax and ask them about the paint condition.

If you read the thread you will know that the original owner is his family friends.

I'm sorry, but what I'm seeing in those pictures is just normal road rash for a 2007 car. I had that much damage happen to my car in 2 minutes from getting stuck behind a dump trunk that was leaking gravel out the gate on the highway.

Again, I'm sorry I'll have to agree with others that your Meguiar's process simply made the chips noticeable, it didn't cause/create them. The location of your problems directly corresponds to highway damage.

looks like road rash that now has product build up in it making it noticeable to you.

Additionally, after you spend time detailing your car you look at it much more close than you ever did and notice things you never did.

I think you need to get some Dr. Colourchip and call it a day

after almost 5 years and 2 owners, the dealership is not going to do anything for you.

I agree that you prob have cleaner wax in those chips now...you'll need to get rid of that before you do the road rash repair with the Dr. C

+1

This right here. More often then not, people new to detailing will start to notice defects in their paint after they have completed a detail for two reason. One they failed to fully examine their car before and after and two, they used poor techniques or the wrong products.

What you have on your car is most definitely normal road rash and products you used was not fully removed and dried in the chips.

Exactly what I see! :dblthumb2:
