Waxes hold on to dirt?

Is it possible that sealants release dirt better than waxes, in most cases? If you think about it, an oily wax will hold on to dirt whether it is a pure wax or a hybrid. Sealants could be better at releasing dirt and not allowing it to get etched/embedded?

A wax for me would be Dodo Juice Blue Velvet and a sealant would be Duragloss 105 or Sonax Polymer Netshield.

Depends on the wax, does the oily wax dry out well when cured? Your theory makes sense though.

Which wax or sealant would you rather have on your car, say if a bird bomb hits it, and is on there all day till you get off work? Pros and cons to all types of protection...

I usually just apply sealants during the 3 hottest summer months, and wax in the spring and fall... even though I love the nice deep glassy look of some sealants, there is something about applying and the look of a nuba, that i will always want.

I have been testing several waxes and sealants for the last 3 months on one panel to check which one makes it easiest to release the fingerprints and dust. The car is a DD and goes through security every morning and it causes oily fingerprints on the boot. None of the waxes so far seem to release this using a QD or waterless wash. Waxes tried on this panel to check this specific issue are Dodo blue Velvet, C 476S, Bilt Hamber Finis Wax, Menzerna Colorlock. Sealants tried so far are DG105/601, Sonax BSD, Sonax PNS, Sonax P&S, Sonax Nano Paint Protect. The sealants fare marginally better with the Gtechniq C2V3 fairing the best so far. All of Sonax stuff is in another league though.

Rest of the car always has a carnauba wax even though they last nowhere compared to sealants. The joy of working with an oily paste wax that spreads like butter and smells like heaven. I have a coat of Vic's red on the rest of the car.

If you don't mind:
Please define "dirt".

Thanks.

Bob

Bob, I am going to restrict the definition of dirt here to what bothers me the most at the moment. Here goes - Oily Fingerprints, Baked on Dust due to extreme heat, baked on mud after heavy rains and not getting to the car in time.

It would seem to me that most, if not all, LSPs would have the tendency to hold-on to these types of baked-on dirt (not just Waxes). Oily fingerprints will usually show up on whatever LSP the fingers touch, as well.

It's a shame that you're getting so many of these oily fingerprints on the trunk of your vehicle each and every report-to-work day.
Hopefully scratches will be held to a minimum.

waxes and sealants contain oils, oils attract dust and dirt, coatings offer less dust attraction due to less oils. This, I thought, we all knew was standard...no testing on panels needed.

I do not care what LSP you put on Wax, Coating, Sealant doesn't matter. Dust will collect, settle, layer or whatever process on your car; period. That is why we detail our cars on a regular basis.

I agree, no way around it:)

It gives me a reason to look forward to polish and try a new LSP every weekend. Just a quick set with Carpro Reflect, panel wipe and a new wax or sealant. I think one more round of the sealants I think will help and then onto a coating. CQ sounds like the thing to buy for this panel. Rest of the car will continue to get carnauba love and some sealant love. I don't like the idea of a coating but it seems like a necessity for this panel.

Since I have a 4 month old so I don't detail anything other than my car at the moment, a coating seems like the end to my woes till he can grow up and lend an additional pair of hands while I'm detailing :buffing:
