I only detail two cars, twice a year (spring and fall), so that is four times a year that I will probably use my Griot polisher. I recently purchased it and have never used it but hope to soon when I do my fall detail. I am going with Duragloss so after claying I will use 601/105 (maybe 501 instead of 105 but I have not decided yet), followed by 601/111. I will then maintain after every wash or two with a topper such as AquaWax. This should get me six months easily since both cars are garage queens.
The point of all this is that if I get the hang of the machine and learn to use it properly, I do not think I should go through more than a couple pads for each car on each detail (8 pads per year). I have the Uber 5.5" pads and get them for around seven bucks a piece and although I have not used them yet they look like quality pads. This means that for my limited use I can work with them and then discard after each use. No work, no solutions or solvents or cleaning machines - no nothing. If I find I go through more than ten or so a year then it would not be worth it and I would have to clean and reuse them but if I can get by this way and they remain cheap to buy I'm tossing them out and will always work with new ones.
