Not much time for now. I simply want to get a thread started. I have more pics and questions to come.

Thanks for looking.

Wow, I've never seen one of those before....

Was morris minor related to morris garage (MG)?

Another GREAT find!

That's two now that are bringing back some happy memories.

In a word, YES.

But, the history is long and convoluted...I really can't remember how one began with the other.

There were several brands that fell under the BMC (British Motor Cars) umbrella, MG, Austin, Austin-Healy plus some that I can't remember.

Sorry to be so vague...just been to long and/or I'm getting too old.

Now for the fun stuff. My son refers to the car as a "Ten Footer" looks good from 10 feet.

My goal is to preserve and protect the car. Trying to keep it "un-restored".

The finish is awful swirl, and other defects are overwhelming, the pics will speak to this. As for the paint, included in the car was 1 can of enamel paint Dover White in color, with instructions that state to apply by brush. LOL... it sure looks like that is what was done. Brush strokes are minor, however finish is not smooth and varies in depth. There are clearly areas that would require a re-paint, however I am not prepared to do that. Wet sand maybe...

My question are:
  • Ought I simply clean it thoroughly, and protect with a coat of wax? If so, what paint cleaner?
  • Should I attempt compound, polish, wax?

  • Genearally the chrome bits are good, bits of the bumpers are bad. Simply Clean and wax?
  • With respect to the wood.. I imagine someone has experience here? I feel like I need to fill the gaps to prevent water intrusion, reference the dark staining. What and how? Boaters?
  • There are some minor ares where the wood finish is deteriorated. How would I prevent these areas from getting worse?

Pretty cool! Did there used to be wood panels within all the wood frames at one time? Off hand I don't recall ever seeing a woody with just the frames and no panels.

No wood panels on these. The frames are indeed structural though.

Papa- I curious, where are you located? I 'see' North Coast, is that here (US) or across the pond?

Bill

Bill- I am just outside of Cleveland Ohio, Lake Erie the "North Coast".

Very nice, I am jealous I have always wanted to get an old Woody Wagon, good luck with that restoration.

Got it!

Seeing that the Traverller was right hand drive, and the numerous British rally plaques I was thinkin' North Coast of somewhere in the British Isles. That puppy is a pure UK vehicle!

I'll just give you and your a heads up about that engine. There is a LITTLE hose that goes between the head and block. It is located right behind the engine fan and only about 4" or so long...called "by-pass hose." They had a tendency to blow out. Try to find one and keep it on hand, or better in the car. Yea, they are a b***h to replace. That 1048cc engine is a pretty good little engine.

Well we decided on an approach to cleaning her up. In the spirit of maintaining the patina we will use meg #7 to nourish the paint and 845 to protect it.
