This day should not go without all of us remembering those who gave all!
Just a few images in memorial to September 11th, 2001.
Lets not also forget the lives lost at the Pentagon and on flight 93.

"That morning, 19 men affiliated with al-Qaeda hijacked four commercial passenger jet airliners. Each team of hijackers included a trained pilot. Two planes (United Airlines Flight 175 and American Airlines Flight 11) crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City, one plane into each tower (One and Two). Both towers collapsed within two hours. The pilot of the third team crashed American Airlines Flight 77 into the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia. Passengers and members of the flight crew on the fourth aircraft (United Airlines Flight 93) attempted to retake control of their plane from the hijackers; that plane crashed into a field near the town of Shanksville in rural Somerset County, Pennsylvania. As well as the 19 hijackers, a confirmed 2,973 people died and another 24 remain missing as a result of these attacks."

Also we must remind ourselves, these people want to kill us period! One cannot negotiate with them. I know that sounds harsh, but it is reality. While I am on my soapbox, are you ladies ready to wear a burka?! Our way of life is under attack. Well enough rambling, back to last day of vacation:(

:iagree: they buy gasstations and then finance terrorism.
 
I went to a private college here witha rep for wealthy families, I'll never forget that day. One, most of my college was from the NY area. But I remeber one guy who I can't remember what business his fmaily owned but they were in the Towers. He basically lost his whole family, mother, father, two brothers, sister, grandfather and other fmaily members. Black limo came to the school with some bodyguard dudes and picked him up, never heard from him again.

We had a house up in Nyack, NY on the Hudson River. Mothers boyfriend had a son at a big law firm in one of the buildings behind the center, he was there at the time of the crashes. He freaked out b/c he couldn't get a hold of his son. Everyone at my college was pretty must histarical b/c most were from NY and couldn't get in touch with anybody there b/c of cell phone system going down.

I was eating breakfast with my roomate and watching the news when it showed a plane crash. At first I was like "what idiot is flying and crashes into that building, its not like you can't see two massive towers". And then a short while later another plane hit and we were like wtf is going on. I also remember a week or so later our school sent letters out to those who were of muslim faith basically telling them it was in their best intrest to leave mainly b/c people starting blamming them even though they had nothing to do with 9/11. Actually I think it was a federal mandate that had all schools do that b/c they were worried of people who might riot or start something against that religion. One person at my school had a rock chucked at his head.

I was in Epcot on 9/11 and once we heard the news (i dont think we heard until about 10:30 or so.... both towers were down by the time we got to the cars) we tried calling people back home (NY) and it was really tough to get thru with so many people tying up the lines......
Sad, sad, day... I was so angry/upset, etc.....

Surf, thats a horrible story about the student that lost so much of his family... I wonder why I never heard of that before.. you figure something so tragic would be news...

Never forget our brothers and sisters that lost their lives on 9/11.

I remember driving towards Orlando that morning. My wife and sister sleeping in the rear. My dad and I turned on the radio to listen to morning news, we thought we were listening to an Audiobook. My office also got robbed that day by a newspaper vendor that saw a crime of opportunity.

We too were in Disney World and even though we had hotel reservations (Swan) they would not allow us in the parks. I remember 09/12 and the first day "after" when everybody within all three parks were polite, and unfortunately it began the 1st day where in the inconvience of bag checks became necessary before entering the parks. The United States truly lost its innocence that day, and it can never be forgotten ! :grouphug:
 
I remember I was home taking care of my son who was only 6 months old at the time and my mom called me from her job and was leaving this crazy message on my machine, "Jen pick up the phone and turn on the tv. There is a rumor about us being bombed or something like that. Watch the news and call me back and tell me what is going on." I turned on the tv just as the second plane hit. I called my mom and told her what I was seeing on the tv. It was surreal. It was like my mind couldn't accept that it was really true, it looked too much like a scene from a movie. Then they talked about the Pentagon and the plane crashing in the field in Pennsylvania and the president being in a secret location. It was nuts. I live very close to the airport so I always hear the planes flying around. When the airports grounded all the flights and I was lying in bed that night and it was all so silent I knew that it was all really true. Really happening. Then I cold hear the sounds of military planes flying over and I knew that everything had changed. :(
 
I remember when I was in Iraq, September 11th 2003... the Iraqis were launching fire works and having parties. I've never been angrier in my life.

I remember 9/12.. we decided to try to continue to vacation.... we went to Animal Kingdom.... It was the first time I experienced the "bag check"... although it made us feel safer I suppose. It wasnt setup as it is now... it was a bit of a pain/mess but since you were in a worldwide destination, you wanted to feel safe....
 
Many thanks to the posts, especially Kelly and DS. I was back less than two weeks from Advanced SAR training when it happened. From that morning (tuesday) until decontamination the following Saturday I was on site in uniform along many others. By thursday we knew it had changed to a recovery mission, though no one dared speak it. Mostly I recall the surreal time warp of working the mound rim in bucket brigades.

My buddies who also were there suffer lingering effects. We all would do it again. We hope it will not be necessary. It probably will. I now detail to occupy my mind and time, supplanting frivolous training and bureaucracy. It grounds me as a counter for other images and efforts. It helps.
 
I watched it on tv that morning and told my wife that the 2nd hit on the towers was a terrorist attack.

Then the Pentagon got hit: My daughter was the Commandant of the Marine Corps secretary and I remembered visiting her, but couldn't remember which side of the building.... Man, I was one upset Dad! Turned out, it was the next wing over from where she worked. We couldn't get in touch with her because Pentagon security moved the Commandant and his staff to a sub basement in anticipation of another crash and she left her cell phone in the office.

Long story short: I finally got to talk to her around 10:00 pm that night after worrying myself sick during the day.

I spent some time in Saudi during the 60's as a military advisor, so I know the mentality of a lot of those people. They do understand one thing: Peace Through Superior Firepower!

I remember being at work and the news of the first tower being hit. We turned on all of the TV's and watched it live and at first thinking it was a
horrible accident and then seeng the 2nd plane hit we realized it was a well
planed attack on our country. We all looked at each other is disbeleif and
knew that it was not over. I watched a documentry the other night that
showed a memorial that said 23 police officers and 443 firemen and 2447
cilvilians were killed. That is unreal for an attack of that magnitude by 19
people. We shall never forget! God Bless each and everyone of the people and their loved ones.

Note that The Commandant relocated (under protest, no doubt) - he did not evacuate! G-d bless Uncle Sam's Misguided Children: your, daughter, my brother, and all the other sorry SOBs in harm's way. Adapt. Improvise. Overcome....to eventual victory. BTW, superior firepower must actually occasionally be used to demonstrate its effectiveness and deter others. Of course, there exist other, more subtle means, too. Hope she is enjoying her subsequent posting. Semper Fi!
