Weatherman says "good chance of rain" the last 4 days. It never rains. I don't wash car.

Weatherman says "low chance of rain" today. I wash car. It rains.

Looks like I'm washing again tomorrow....

OK, I'm off my soapbox and done grumbling about clouds and weather people. Back to your regular scheduled programming.

LOL...I never trust the NWS here on the Chesapeak Bay Watershed.
If you look at the sky in most of my detail photos here in Md, you will most likely see large thick clouds.

It rained most of the morning here today, only to reveal abundant sunshine in the afternoon.

Montgomery county is a whole other story though. They get rain even if ony 20% chance is forcast.

LOL I know how you feel. When I finally wash my car, it literally rains as I am finish drying.

*Being an optimist, I figured, hey, at least my car is beading ;)

I don't like how the weathermen/women here are all starting to dress so casual during severe weather. If I am about to die in a tornado, I want someone in a suit telling me this

What other occupation is out there where you can pull in six figures every year, be wrong every day, and still be employed...

When I want to know about my local weather. I call my next door neighbor.

He sticks his hand out the window and if it's wet, then it's raining. He's always accurate.

And today is BEAUTIFUL with 0% chance of rain, annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd.....I have a honey-do list too big to work on the car today! LOL!

Was such a beautiful day yesterday that I got in 8 hours on a neighbors yard (plus 3 hours on Friday evening).
Since I was eliminating the shade under the watchful, yet demanding eye of the homeowner, the heat became unbearable. I took an hour or so off, posted on a few threads, then emerged from my basement to straight line winds, large powerful rain drops, and a 15 degree drop (guesstimate) in temperature.

Still have another full day to complete flower beds and weeding. Ordering mulch for Thursday.

High winds and furious rains raced across the Washington region at the end of a muggy Saturday afternoon, causing power outages that left tens of thousands of homes and businesses in the dark and intersections without working traffic lights.
At least one tornado touched down in the Reston-Herndon area about 4:30 p.m., Fairfax County spokesman Jeremy Lasich said. Initial reports indicated the storm caused only minor injuries.

Officials sent out alerts urging people to seek cover as violent weather arrived. The rain pounded with a ferocity amid winds that exceeded 60 mph. Many trees were toppled and temperatures plunged from the 90s to the 60s. As the storm sped eastward, affected areas saw relative calm return after about 15 minutes.
The District ended up canceling a flash flood warning as driving rains moderated to showers. The Bay Bridge across the Chesapeake Bay was shut down due to wind restrictions, but quickly reopened.
Despite the storm’s brevity, the damage was widespread.
By Saturday evening, 188,000 customers across the region were without power. All the most populous jurisdictions were affected — Fairfax, Prince William, Prince George’s and Montgomery counties, as well as the District.

Prefect day for me yesterday. Changed the radiator on my truck, right when I finished it started raining, couldn't of been more perfect. It was a nice 90degrees.

About 10 years ago the NWS was way wrong about a big storm prediction here in the Mid- Atlantic. A local weatherman said that the mountains to the west and an ocean to the east
really play havoc with weather predictions.

Hi, I'm new to Auto Geek. What do y'all recommend doing to my car after it rains? I know that rain can be acidic, and can leave yucky stuff on the car (my car is not garaged). Do you recommend I rinse it off w/ the hose and then dry it? Thanks! Best regards, Matthew

no need to watch the weather. all you need is a rock and set it on a swing.

  • If the rock is wet, it's raining.
  • If the rock is swinging, the wind is blowing.
  • If the rock casts a shadow, the sun is shining.
  • If the rock does not cast a shadow and is not wet, the sky is cloudy.
  • When the rock turns white, it is snowing.
  • In the morning, if the rock is coated with ice, there is a frost. If the ice is thick, it's a heavy frost. Im the MAN

Don't do that! If you rinse it, you have to wash it. Tap water is loaded with calcium carbonate that will leave water spots on your paint. You can't mechanically dry a car that hasn't been hand washed without installing swirls or scratches, as you will be pushing the left over dirt around with your drying towel.

Best thing to do is either get a good sealant topped by a wax on your paint ( or a coating). Then, after it rains, your car should be fine... For the most part, rain won't leave traditional hose/sprinkler style water spots that can etch paint. Unless of course you live near some place where there is nasty acid rain or industrial fall out. Also, keep up with maintenance washes. This will help keep the car clean and limit contaminants from bonding to the paint long term. Rain isn't as bad for your paint as you think, a lot of time hose water left to dwell or dry on paint can be worse!

If the car is clean and protected, there should be only minor water spots left after the rain.
