How many of you guys only detail on the weekends? If are a weekend warrior, are you mobile or are you strictly home based. Can you also discuss if the money is good or great?

Looking to really do more cars next spring and wanting to know if the "warriors" of the forum are doing well.

I am a weekend warrior and have been mostly home based. I have take on a few jobs mobile but they are wash and wax type jobs. For any polishing or correction work I only do that from home.

Since this is a weekend thing the added money is nice and the side job doesn't interfere with my primary job. I usually had 3 cars a month.

I'm weekend only. I gert 150 for a car, 300 for a mini van or bigger suv.

As of right now I do weekends only with the exception of doing my friends G35 and taking a vacation day from my regular job to do it. The money is great for me because I would normally be doing nothing productive at all and just burning time playing video games, watching TV, or detailing my own cars.

I am weekend only, from home only - no mobile.

Being based in South Africa I doubt we could start making comparisons in terms of how 'profitable' it is, but like others have said, it is money that is made doing something I am very passionate about, and thus I am able to earn a little extra doing something I love

Weekend warrior over here.. I'm home based only and have no interest in being mobile. I love being home and having a young family I promised the wife I'd not go mobile. I average about 1K a month and that's only doing 1 to a max of 2 cars per weekend.. I won't take on 2 large jobs in 1 weekend.

I am fairly new to the game of detailing, but I am a weekend/evening warrior and do it from my house.

Weekend warrior here. Just started for friends and family only and will likely just keep it that way for a while. Downside, I don't charge what I want to, but that will come over time. Started with a "labor day special" for a buddy where I made less than $10/hr., but I had a call within an hour from another friend who heard what I was doing from him...and the next weekend was already booked. I've had one detail each of the last three weekends. Other downside is my own cars don't get as much attention.

Best comments so far: "I don't think it's looked this good since I picked it up from the dealership". Another said "I don't think it's looked this good...ever!"

My customer yesterday paid me an extra $20 because he couldn't believe how good everything looked. I'm not getting what I deserve for the work I do, but that's okay for now. I get to do something I enjoy and get a little walkin around money to boot.

just a weekend hobby for me. my own vehicle. i did do the neighbors once for cash. sometimes i swear i could do good with a side business. but thats a whole different ball game. and i am limited to the weather. but i enjoy it none the less.

Another Weekend Warrior Here... The vast majority of my work is paint correction, therefore I do all of my work at my home. I simply cannot pack everything up and move it around with me, so mobile detailing was never an option I wanted to offer to my customers. I try to limit myself to only 1-3 cars per month (1 car a weekend, and hopefully a weekend or two off) to keep myself from being 'over worked'. I also don't want my wife to think I have totally forgotten about her :)

I make pretty good money (gross income), but to be honest, I didn't start my detailing business to make money. I do it because I enjoy it, and the majority of the money I earn goes back into my business in the form of new products, new tools, garage upgrades... and of course to things like taxes, insurance, etc :( )... When it is all said and done, I make a bit of extra income through detailing each year, but nothing substantial. If I had more self control and didn't buy products until I needed more products then I would have a lot more profit haha but part of the fun in detailing is buying everything that goes with it.

You can think of it as a hobby that pays for itself :dblthumb2:
