Hello, my name is Jim. I live in the Maryland suburbs, just north of DC and I work in Greenbelt. I'm driving a black 2008 Jetta SE and since it doesn't look like I'm going to be trading up to a Jag or a 5 series Bimmer any time soon, i want to make this car at least look good. And maybe my wife's car, and my son's car and my daughter's car. At least I get to park it in a garage when I'm home

Anyway, I'm about to pull the trigger on a Poor Boy's kit and have a go. I have watched several videos so i think i can handle it. I do have some specific questions which I'll post in different forums

I would suggest the "Wolfgang Trio" instead of Poor Boy's...only because a lot more people on the Forum use them and you are likely to get more/better feedback

Welcome. I second Kyle's suggestion on the Wolfgand trio. Depending on how the paint reacts to Uber if you end up needing it, you can probably finish it out with the Finishing Glaze. Awesome combo.

Optimum lotion polishes are ever faster and easier than WG. They are also significantly cheaper. I would go with PB's if you must work outside and it's hot.

Hello to Jim. I am new here too.

Love your kitty picture. Could you please expound on the above comment? What makes the "optimum lotion polishes" easier to work with? And cheaper is always good, if it works! I don't mind spending the $$ for a superior product, but I'll admit the WGs was a bit more expensive than I might've guessed it would be.

I'm a newbie too. I just ordered a bunch of WG products so will probably stick with them until I use them up, but I want to try different things. Unlike OP, I don't have a garage so I must work outside and while we're starting to move into fall, it does get very hot here in the summer.

Thanks!

Welcome Jim. its good that you are interested in restoring and protecting your vehicle. one thing to know about this site, or any site, is that you will get so many different opinions that you will feel a lot more lost afterward than you were before. if you think you are comfortable with a product, have researched the product, found that it gets good reviews, and you have found a good price for it, use it. every brand has their "combo". they all will work fine. sometimes, its a lot more technique and tools than anything.

sometimes, its a lot more technique...than anything.

If there is one thing I have learned in my time here, this is probably the most important.

You could buy the most expensive products out there, but if your technique is not correct, you absolutely will not achieve the results you are looking for. Focus more on this, and less on what specific brands to buy, and I think you will be happy with the results that will await you.

The first real purchase I bought directly from Autogeek was a Poor Boys PC kit. The car was done with this kit purchased from Autogeek btw.

Poorboy’s Porter Cable 7424XP Polish & wax Kit

I hadn't detailed in a while and was getting back into it. So I found a nice beat up car to test out my kit.

Does the Poor Boys kit work? Yep sure does so if you do go that route I think you'll be satisfied with their products.

I agree :xyxthumbs:

I didn't know about all these other brands, I pretty much knew 3M and Meguiar's (which at the time, all I knew of Meguiar's was they made waxes, which I really liked)

oh and :D
