Thanks for the reply. Setec Astronomy what say you. The circle is now complete.
:iagree:You can fix most things, but you can't fix stupid. Anyone that burns his paint with an old PC or a Flex/Rupes should not have a polisher in his hands.:buffing:Yes, I know you can burn paint with a 1st gen PC, you can't fix stupid, etc. etc. All of these things that allow us to correct better/faster, whether it be smaller pads, more powerful and forced-rotation machines, agressive/SMAT compounds, increase the risk of damaging your paint.
So, maybe for you or me, a Rupes is "PC-safe", but I don't see how you can argue that for a newb who's never used a polisher before, at home alone in his driveway without an instructor, that he's as safe today with that Rupes as he was 10 years ago.

Is that any different then the guy who buys Meg's Ultimate Compound otc wraps a mf towel around two fingers and rubs right through the clear? That's not fair. How many threads have we seen on this forum, where someone well-intentioned gets a scratch down to the primer on his car, searches the net, finds Autogeek, orders up a PC and some 4" yellow pads, and leans on the same spot with some M105 on speed 6 until he burns through the clear?
It seems to come in cycles, a few months ago we had a bunch of burned clear threads. ("what's this dull spot on my paint? I polished it but it got worse")
