Well looks like I really did it :(

Makita would be nice, but getting this repaired would be also. We'll see.
Give them another call tomorrow. I would be real disappointed to hear that they would not provide you that part at a reasonable price. :buffing:

I'm definitely going to, but according to the lady I spoke to they don't sell that piece individually...hopefully if I'm a bit more forceful, they'll sell me the piece.

If they can't sell you the piece it may be because they don't have it... It is assembles to other pieces in a land far far away. Get the part name and number. Search the internet with that info and maybe you can find it.

A little gorilla glue and she'll be just like new ;)

I may be wrong but, it could be the reason the won't replace the part is because the don't have spare parts. They probably just swap a defective unit out for a new one and don't mess with repairing them. That is the way alot of companies are going now a days and really sucks for anyone wanting to fix a little mishap like this one.

That would be my take on it. I would say they simply dont have the part. It is likely made for them by someone else.

That would make sense, but they can't get spare parts for their own DA? Thats a bit scary to me. It's seriously such an easy fix...hopefully it doesn't resort to me having to buy a new Polisher. Despite how appealing the Griots may be in terms of use, price etc I will not be considering it again.

If that's true, maybe you could ask what they do with the "defective" ones they get back and convince them to figure a way of getting you the part from one of the returned ones. If they can't/won't help you, just do your best to be a squeaky wheel, if you get my drift.:bat:

I'll be the squeakiest wheel in the world

I feel terrible. Member S4Babe, my Girlfriend bought me this only 4 months ago.

Exactly what I was thinking. They certainly have a broken one they can cannibalize for parts. It would be best to just send them the pic and get the owner involved. I have only heard good things about the company.

Good point!!!:xyxthumbs:

Griot's Garage reps. will be at DetailFest this coming weekend. I think this kind of situation is definitely something I'll be asking them about.

Well I'm completely, and utterly disgusted with Griots.

Just got off the phone with them and pleaded for the housing piece, but after a short hold they insisted they cannot supply it. Excuse my French, but IMO they are a bunch of money hungry bastards. It's not fair to treat a customer this way who has both of their DA's numerous pad and numerous chemicals. This will be the first and last 6 inch DA I purchase from these low lives, as well as any other chemicals.

I'm glad you have an update, sadly not the one I was seeking. I will not purchase a Griot's ROP after this little incident. I don't care if the thing is made in a foreign land far away, I just find it difficult to believe they cannot supply you with this simple part. That is very poor customer service. I'm pretty certain that I will skip the Griot's display at Detail Fest this weekend.

Its seriously ridiculous that they cannot get a simple black plastic housing. Its very sad I have to consider purchasing a new DA because of their lack of support.

I'm more upset than heated. I'm gonna try a do an ugly fix on it and in due time purchase a Flex...I'm sure if this situation ever arises again, god forbid, I wouldn't have this type of problem recovering a piece from them...even if they are stationed in Germany...I really am disappointed that a company who holds them selves so high, is in fact, very, very low

IMO, i don't think you can blame Griots for not being to supply you with the piece you broke. i mean, how often do you think they come across something like this and would have a spare part like that lying around (they probably only have the brushes if anything) or be able to order it since the majority of the problems would be the motor in which they would replace the whole thing).. if there were something wrong internal, then yes they would honor it back since it comes with a lifetime warranty.

also, say you did get the part (and you put it on) and then something goes wrong with the motor or stops working, do you think they should be liable to replace it with a brand new one since the damage could of came from when it was ran over?

while it sucks that it broke, mistakes happen and all you can do is bite the bullet sometimes...

BigAl, while you are right about having to bite the bullet sometimes this shouldn't be the case here. With all due respect to Griots, they made an amazing machine, but to not have spare parts to their own DA is just plain asinine. I understand what your saying, and I can see you are a supporter of their company, or at least you're portraying yourself as one, but you honestly think they cannot call their manufacturer and get a replacement part? Please lets not be naive here. It's quite evident, at least in my opinion that they are thinking or trying to sell another unit. There is NO WAY that they cannot SOMEHOW conger up a solution for my mistake, at my expense. While it was my 100% my fault, any other manufacturer would offer a solution that wouldn't require a $130.00 price sticker.

With all respect BigAl, I disagree. Regardless of who is at fault and how small the problem may be, they should be ready to supply any part necessary should a customer need it. If they feel this may interfere with the warranty then they should offer a repair service. He clearly stated that he is willing to pay for the part, which to me says that he is willing to pay for service. This is just my opinion.

that's why they replace the whole machine and not just a part, and is reason why they don't replace or order just one piece. not going to argue, and doing so is not going to remedy your problem. sorry to hear about your loss and it does suck, no doubt about it...

p.s. maybe AG can call and ask if they can get the part for you since they are a distributor. who knows, maybe they can pull some strings for you...
