Hey guys, i'm wetsanding body shop clearcoat at my shop with 2k grit.

I've tried alot of combinations, and after much fail, i've come up with a combination to get me to about 85 percent correction.. with minor holograms.

My process is as follows.

Meguiars Maroon wool-3M brown compound (forgot name)

Meguiars Maroon Wool-Megs 105

Orange LC foam- Megs 105

With those 3 steps on a dark vehicle i'm left with what i stated above, with light colored vehicles, it's fine.

I just feel like i need to get over the hump to get myself about 95 percent correction. (I feel this is acceptable for a body shop)


Here's some more background, i use to use m205 after all of that, but with all of the oils, i cannot use this.. It dies back, and i'm left with a mess. (Very time consuming mess)

So i've been researching Menzerna products, and a few people have reccomended 206, but some have said that has alot of oils in it as well.. I'm looking for a light cut polish, with no oils.. (If this is possible) that can finish down LSP ready..

I'm really looking forward with what you guys can come up with.

How many passes and what speed were made with the wool?

Not 100% sure but it sounds like you aren't spending enough time with the wool getting all the defects out. Also I've never heard of following up wool with more wool. I would think after wool you should be able to move to a heavy cut foam pad and M105.

As for the holograms you might want to try finishing with a DA machine instead of a rotary and you shouldn't have any hologram issues. Some paint can be difficult to finish down hologram free with a rotary.

polishing oils lubricate the surface and help you get the results you want.

Water is a lubricant but it's not as good of a lubricant when you're trying to create beauty on a thin, clear layer of paint.

You're finishing out with two coarse of a pad.

Switch to a polishing pad and some M205 or a Menzerna Polish like the SIP and then follow this with a very soft finishing pad and a polish like the Menzerna PO85RD

That's alot of work to take out 2k grit sand marks on fresh paint, what kinda paint you spraying? Dupont imron or nason, I go menzerna pg on wool followed with sip always looks great, and if I'm trying to go the extra mile a finishing polish/glaze adds a nice touch, I prefer 3m ultrafina or 85rd
