I’m pretty sure what I’m going to go with, but I’d like to hear some opinions just to make sure.

What original color would you say this trim is supposed to be? Black or gray?

After. It’s cleaning it, but not doing much else.

I’m thinking it’s black. It’s gotta be black right? Otherwise these handles would be gray and that doesn’t look right.

What do you guys think?

I’d say black as well. If you’re not sure you can mix your black/grey solution finish 50/50 and create something truly unique looking (kidding.)

I would try a heat gun on it. GM trim responds pretty well to heat gun trim restoration IME. I’d also agree that it’s black trim, not gray.

This prompted me to look for a pic of a brand new one of those. I know I originally said gray, but having seen the below, it's black:

I didn’t have access to a heat gun.

Looks black. You gonna use Solution Finish to bring it back?

TW Endura Trim Coat.

That must be that Hummer you showed a few days ago?

Killer job. It looks clean and very even. What did you end up prepping it with?

Thanks! I ended up sticking with the Mothers Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner. 2 go rounds with a couple of different brushes did a better job, not perfect, but it did it’s fare share of cleaning which made me feel it was sufficient. Very tedious job the trim on this vehicle... Make or break truly depended on the trim.

Awesome! Did you use Solution Finish or what did you go with?

The before and after pictures is awesome!

Great work.

Thanks fellas.

Thanks!

I used the now discontinued TW Endura Trim Coating.
I’m kicking myself for somehow forgetting to take an after shot of the entire vehicle. Lol.

Dang...You did it!

Great job there.

How did it go? It wasn't too bad, was it?

I found out after doing the 1 side of the trim that I was actually getting much worse results after prepping. Crazy huh?

Once I found that out I quit with the tedious prep work and simply did a quik wipedown with either APC or D114 and the trim coating went on super easy and super dark the way it should be. Prior to that I was having it apply almost clear in comparison, requiring 3-4 coats before getting the proper look.

It wasn’t too hard once I got into the swing of things [meaning the trim] because TBO that factory paint had orangepeel and just didn’t have the pop I was hoping for after polishing.

Once I decided to remove the roof rack I knew I had owned it! Lol.
The owner paid me for a full detail but I don’t think he was expecting me to go as far as removing the the entire rack off the roof!

This is the best I’ve felt about a detail [results wise] in recent memory.

Jeez Eldo.

Did you have to by a 55 gal. drum of the TW?

Killer outcome, brother. :props:

How did it go? It wasn't too bad, was it?

Ok I didn’t really have the time to go into detail earlier, but I’ll go ahead and fully answer this question since you went ahead and asked.... It’s really funny you asked, here’s the full answer, you might find this funny.

Ok so customer dropped off the Hummer this past Thursday night.
We agreed that I could fiddle with a couple of things on it, but I really couldn’t fully dive in until maybe Saturday.. So Sat. comes around and I’m up early getting it prepped for polishing, I had just finished a full bucket wash & clay + dried the vehicle when guess who decides to show up completely out of the blue nextdoor? Yup, my worst nightmare, a freakin Gardener! And not just any gardener to do just any job, but these 3 guys are here to INSTALL the complete yard, front and back with new grass!

As soon as I see them begin to unload their truck I walk over and ask “what are you going to do”?!

He introduces himself and explains and that’s when I explain what I’m about to do and he’s sorry, but there’s really nothing that can stop them since that weekend will be the beginning of a 3 weekend job of landscaping for them nextdoor. I’m Screwed!

Btw, ever since my old neighbor moved out a couple of months ago there’s been nothing but dirt nextdoor, so they proceed to begin to mow straight over dirt in order to prep for their lawn laying. I’m minutes away from starting my polisher and they’re suddenly going to mow dirt!

This is what nextdoor to my driveway looks like. They mowed this dirt and turned my driveway into a dustbowl! Insane.

So I had to act fast! That’s why you’ll notice the background in my 1st pics here isn’t my normL spot... I had to improvise and move the Hummer and detail in the alley!lol.

eba2cb09cf79b0d07e604b2b69c8c803.jpg

When they started on the backyard I moved back to my driveway... the Kia was covered in a thick layer of dirt. It didn’t take long before the Hummer was gradually becoming caked in dirt as well... I spent most of this time working on just the trim.

If you look closely at this pic, you’ll notice how caked the windshield is... The entire vehicle was caked in dust/dirt and this is after I spent all the time washing every inch of it during my prep.🤨[by this time I had polished about half of it with HD Speed]

bb7ef78c9f0854382ae6ceed2e82d267.jpg

I didn’t even bother going outside on Sunday.... All I heard was lawnmowers and could just about breathe the dirt they were kicking up all day...

So Monday rolls around and I’m not even close to being done. I might as well be negative done. Lol. Back to work which means I’ve got like no time to even try. And just when the gardeners weren’t bad enough, look what was suddenly scheduled to happen today... Close the entire block because my luck can only get worse they’re gonna re pave the street! FML.

That’s why I decided I’d had enough of this crap and took a paid day off yesterday to finally getter done! Lol. Otherwise I would’ve never been finished detailing this behemoth Hummer.

So that’s the whole answer to your question of “How’d it go, it wasn’t too bad was it”?

Oh yes it was too bad... And even worse! But I got it dun!

Thanks for reading. It feels good to get that story off my chest.lol.
