Well my week sucked pretty bad, started out with a car going into anti theft due to a cord coming loose during engine detail, Friday I detailed 2 maintenance details for a company I won't name. I've been doing these cars for 5-6 months with no issues once every 2 weeks. Wash, interior wipe down, protectant vacuum and spot clean seats when nessicary, also up protectant on the plastic bumpers and plastic on the exterior( customers demand) this Friday I finished and the guy said he wasn't going to pay the agreed 35$ a piece, instead offered me 25$ a piece for 2 hrs of work which I didn't accept being it wasn't what was agreed upon, nothing in writing besides my past invoices. And it was all because last week this guy landed me a job with another branch of his company (40 minute drive away from me there 40 mins back) and I said I would do it but I'd be charging a bit more. He flipped saying I don't know how to run a business and I'm a typical mellineal expecting more for less. Any way how do you guys handle these circumstances of someone or a company not wanting to pay? It's only 70$ but that is a lot of money as I have bills and a 3 year old

Shouldn't be hard to replace in St Pete. Let him choke. Sorry.

I agree with Ron. IMO, your prices were already dirt cheap. If he is squawking about $35, tell him to find another detailer with cheaper prices.

Period.

I would not take any payment except the agreeded and put a mechanics lien on the cars. You may. It get paid today, but will some day.

I went every other week and each visit was 35 per car

How many times per week? Honestly, you could do 35/car mobile wash and people would be calling off the hook.

Hell, I'd go wash dishes before I'd do another car for him.

I know I have no idea what you're going through, but it's bothering you enough to ask about it.

No customer is better than a bad customer.

Once every 2 weeks and yea I told him I won't touch their cars again and I cut ties with the other company as well, the crazy thing is that this dude was a detailer and claimed to have won some detail competitions in Dunedin

He knows you need the $$$, he was pressing you. He overplayed his hand. Let him get his hands dirty again if he really was.

Yea I figured he was trying to negotiate but I won't accept less than that, I also was washing his personal car for free because he was always cool

Your wasting time by being the yes man to everything because you need the money.Use your time wisely and find quality and loyal customers.Washing cars at 40.00 doesn't pay nothing.you should be charging more.Better off doing wholesale detailing than to waste your time with this guy.

Well I figure 30$ an hour isn't too bad being I came from a job paying 13 an hr lol

You are correct. However, you don't need clients like you mentioned in the opening post. And, you should be making a bit more in the area you are in. JMO

Yea, I just don't really have the demand to charge more yet, this is my full-time job and I'm only getting about 5 to 7 cars per week with my prices how they are now, most " detailers" out here are charging 15-20 for what I do for 40 usually

Well I hope word of mouth about your work brings you more clients man.

Good luck to you in your detailing business. :)

You need to do something to set yourself apart form the "other detailers" , unless of course you think that's all you are worth.
