Martina is amazing. She did this song at the Grammys about 20 years ago.

Her vocal power and range is a true gift. Some performers will simply sing the words, and while it will sound good, you don't get that shiver down your spine. A vocalist like Martina on the other hand, her voice becomes an integral part of the entire instrumental effort.

I posted this song earlier, but it's a remarkable performance that I have studied quite a lot recently. The chorus, actually the entire song, is built around Martina hitting and holding those notes for so long, if she misses one, the whole song falls apart. I've listened to others cover this song, and while some will get close, only Martina can nail it.


This next video is fascinating, it separates and analizes her vocals from the above LIVE performance. No auto tune going on here!


I've always loved vocalists that can sing big. Shania Twain was the same in her peak years, sadly illness took that from her and she now has a rather raspy voice.
 
I was listening to a August 1960 top 100 on Sirius while I was detailing on vehicles. There were a lot of forgettable songs in August 1960.
 
Not an AC/DC fan, but I love this cover by Shania Twain with backing vocals from Alison Krauss.
