How's it going fellas? Just a Quick ?.
After seeing a vehicle on the road today that I detailed 2 weeks ago, I now have a concern about my techniques for cleaning the wheel wells...

Granted, it has rained a few time since, but these things looked absolutely horrible...

My normal procedure:

Thorough rinse W/ PW
APC
Cheap Wheel shine from local distributor.

Not to mention this process took me anywhere from 25-35 minutes...

So my ? is how are you guys tackling these areas, what products are you using, and is there any way I can speed it up?Feed back please
 
It all depends how the weather is where your from. In NJ its been snowing a lot for the past 2 weeks and the roads have been slush for a while. So there is no way to keep them clean.

If you live in a nice area where there are no snow then the wheels should still look decent. Maybe you can try polishing the wheels and seal them with a sealant.
 
Thanks for the reply my man, Im not dealing with any snow here, Its the rain and these wet roads.
My concern isnt the wheel itself, its the wells. Sorry if I didnt make that clear...
 
For wheels you need a solvent based dressing, like megs all season dressing

You can't really do much about the wells, if it rains they are going to get dirty. Best bet to do is just rinse them and the dirt should come off them.
 
From all the reading, your doing about what everyone does. I would imagine that the best "solution" is to only use the armor all, I mean cheap wheel shine, only on the parts of the wheel well that you can really see, as its a dirt magnet.

As I think we all know the reason we spend good money on UTTG and the like is they last and don't draw in the dirt from 4feet away like the cheap stuff seems to. So the less you can use the better really.

If I was of a clear mind I could maybe pull the recent thread about this same thing but the Ambien is kicking in and my skills in search are not great anyway.
 
I would love to know how to speed up on cleaning wheels. For my own car and cars I wash 1-2 weeks. Its ONR wash stregh pre rinse, let it dwell 1-2mins. more ONR and wipe down with MF towel, then wipe down with a dry MF towel. Takes 5min and looks pretty much perfect. We don't have snow or anything.

If its a new car that doesn't have sealant then its APC 1:10 pre rise and I break out the various brushes. Typical rinsing in water or ONR wash buck. If the wheels are really bad its simple green degreaser 1:10 and alot of rising in ONR bucket and maybe hosing down(I hate using a hosepipe). It can take quite a while. I wish there was a faster way to clean really dirty wheels. 5 spoke wheels take even longer, even with the daytona speed brush

Once the wheel is clean wipe dry with a mf towel. Then IPA wipe down then 3m sealant(3bucks at biglots). I re-seal wheels every month or so. I really would love to know a quicker way. Maybe pressure rise and foam, and let it dwell with a degreaser then rise and spray iron X, but those things are all costly.

tires its just APC 1:10 with a stiff brisle brush. Then wipe down with a cloth twice(a dry cloth always gets a ton of dirt off, no matter how much I scrub). Then tire gel. I'm trying megs endurance gel, initial impressions are great thus far. I use a foam pad for tires only and let it sit. I don't wipe off.

Wax/sealant on wheels makes it so much easier and faster to wash wheels.
 
I've found that Megs hot shine tire shine (aerosol) seems to hold up real well on the wheel wells. It beads strongly so the dirt doesn't seem to stick to well with the rain.
 
Just picked up some Megs Hot Shine, Im really impressed with the results thus far, thanks guys.
 
after cleaning and prepping well, you can repaint them with hi-temp paint as desired but will need to remove wheels.
