What are your mantras to get you through anxiety, panic, stress or despair?

I do not suffer from Anxiety, Panic, or Despair.

But when I'm a bit stressed, detailing my truck or a fishing trip does wonders for me. :)

I think he was looking for a different type of "activity".

Paul : I too enjoy dipping a line, but fishing can sometimes be very stressful ...

Yeah, but I'm not going there....... Lol

And, if I have to wear anything more than a flannel or light hoodie, no fishing for me. ;)

Through trials and travail,
God’s love will always prevail

Depends on what is giving me anxiety, but most of the time a shot of bourbon will work if it is a short term issue, like an interview or event coming up. If it is something such as work I workout, box, or detail my car.

Actually, ice fishing isn't bad. Grab a rental hut (w/heater) on Lake Erie, have a few "warming spirits", and slay the yellow perch and walleye. Sadly, too warm again this winter, no ice.

Ill take your word on that, sir.

I'd much rather be in a tank top and shorts while reeling in 40 pound striped bass. ;)

I like beer. But sometimes that is not an option. A nice long motorcycle ride does wonders for me.

The variant I know is: Even this will pass away.

For disasters: Nothing is ever as good or as bad as it initially seems; or Nobody died.

For impossible tasks: You know how you eat an elephant?

If all else fails: Let's do it.

Regarding the last, it has a double meaning. Others may think I mean, Let's get on with this with fortitude. I do mean that; but these were also the last words of Gary Gilmore before he was executed.

We all go through panic and stress and fortunately I do not suffer from attacks like some people do. When I get stressed or depressed, I detail cars, listen to Elvis music or do 100 pushups on my knuckles. Any or all of those things ease my mind.

Ill be honest, im taking medications for seizures, depression and anxiety, its been a very bumpy ride with everything ive been though. Id recommend the book lost connections by johann hari if you have not read. Very good perspective on life

I enjoy a ride thru the woods on my mountain bike to clear my head

I second the motorcycle ride. But when my back injury, or the weather won't allow for it, I simply use the mantra I learned while working in Information Technology. I walk into the bathroom, splash some cool water on my face, look deep into the mirror, and quietly repeat to myself...

"Fools, I'll kill them all."

To be honest, I've been quite comfortable keeping to myself (and taking care of Mom). Although, I do miss canceling plans with my friends. Hope you are all well. And I hope to be participating in the forums again on a regular basis.

I go for long drives, see if I can risk a few speeding tickets and what not. I also go to the range. If I get really stressed out at work, I just remind myself that stress levels in the corporate office was nothing like the stress levels in Afghanistan, so that kind of brings me back to earth.
