Is the Meguiares brand just for the general public or is it comparable to all the other brands I read on here i.e.,Pinnacle, Soverign, Wolfgang, etc.

I have the DC system that I bought OTC but when I used it I did not have a pc which I have now. I only did a few panels with the DC (by hand) and thought it looked good but I wasn't goo goo gaa gaa over it. I imagine I might be goo goo gaa gaa over it if I do it again with the pc but I wonder????? Is this the right product for me to use to get that wet, mirror finish I want?:confused: I don't see a lot of threads containing Meg's products, hmmm.

Your opinions are much respected.

As you probably know Meguiar's has a ton of products. There are many die hard Meguiars fans because that is all they use. Just because it isn't talked about a lot, doesn't mean it's a bad product. Actually the opposite is true as well, just because a product IS talked about a lot doesn't mean that it is a good product. Everything in the detailing world is based upon user preference. The OTC Meg's stuff is decent and probably one of the best set of products that you can get OTC. Meguair's has a professional line which is very good. I personally haven't used many of the pro line but from reading and watching videos, I would expect that you wouldn't be disappointed. Pinnacle, Wolfgang, and the like are considered boutique products for enthusiasts... do they work better than pro products? Maybe. They are probably a lot easier to use and you may see a difference, but it would be marginal. I personnally like to use products that give off great results and are easy to use, which is why I like boutique products. Others buy boutique products because they think that because they spent a lot of money that a certain product that the results will be worth it .... however sometimes the price is pure marketing and the product may not live up to your personal standards. Sorry for a long post, I may have gone off on a tangent, but it made sense in my mind :cheers:.

I am one of those people who believe that the 'boutique' products do not offer better results, and my reasoning is simple. Just look at all the guys that use Meguiar's and Mothers in Pebble Beach, known for being the the pinnacle in paint perfection gatherings, and many winners use both those brands. Now what I do believe in terms of results is the prep work you do with clay/polish (wet sand when needed) and the condition of the paint itself. That is where I believe the battle is won.

With that said though, just as Budman3 said, many people pick boutique brands not always because they give a better shine, but often because they enjoy working with the product more. I know this is the case for me at least! Certain waxes may not give a better shine than the $15 tin of M26, but they will last longer with better protection (Collnite).
 
Plus a lot depends on the user. Experience plays a fairly large role in the outcome of a vehicle. An experienced and overall great detailer can use any product and make it look good :). Then again a rookie could pick up a boutique product and make it look very nice with limited experience because the products are fool proof to use. It all depends :). Back to Meguiar's, they make certain products for certain buyers/markets, ie- consumer line, pro line, marine line, detailer line, DC line, etc. They all work well it just depends what your cup of tea is. What's nice about forums is that you can pretty much pick and choose certain products which seem to be popular and see if you like that product. Just be cautious, money can be spent very fast this way :).
 
I have seen some very nice finishes using the Megs Professional Line. I still believe most of the OTC offerings are price point options and will never offer the best of anything, just something adequate that the masses will use as Wally World stocks it and its usually all-in-one bottle.

One especially good point I took notice too was from Budman. I am a rookie, using a pc on a blk rig. So some products are more user friendly than others!!!!Hmmmm, what to do what to do!!!!

In your opinion(all), which products are more user friendly than others and have you used many different products. It would be worth it to me to gain experience using a product that is going to work more with me than against me, ya know what I mean? At least to start out with.
 
Easy to use products, I'm all over this and it's all from my experience :).

When it comes to using a PC, the easiest polishes to use are Poorboy's SSRs and Pinnacle's XMT polishes. You don't need the whole line, SSR2.5 and SSR1 would be plenty or XMT3 and XMT2 would work as well... those combinations would knock a lot of swirls off. I like these polishes because they are easy to work in and they wipe off like a sealant- nearly effortless. It is usually a pleasure working with them plus they smell good.

If you are looking for an All in One product (AIO) for a paint cleaner and protection, Optimum Poli-seal, Poorboy's PwS and Klasse AIO are all nice and easy to use offerings.

Almost all waxes and sealants are fairly easy to use. If you lay down a nice thin thin thin layer, you'll be set with almost any product, especially if it is talked about on the forums.
