I want to take the vette out from CA to AZ. I do not want rock chips and bugs galore - any destruction to my vette.
I know it would need a bra just for the trip - but i am not covering it in blue painters tape.
What do I do? I have NO ISSUE pulling over to take care of the car as often as it takes, but is that even enough?
ANd with what?
What is the fastest way to get a bra - from the dealer?
Thanks for any info you can share.
It has nav, and I need NAV!!!

Thanks in advance guys.....Feed back please Feed back please Feed back please Feed back please Feed back please

A bra from the dealer is going to be very expensive, and it's very possible they may not have them in stock and may have to order them.

The only thing I can think of is a bra would be the only thing to really protect the front.
You can carry as many chemicals and such that you want to remove bugs and so forth, but that's not going to eliminate any rock chips.

I'd just bring a bottle of your favorite bug remover or body solvent and give the front end a good cleaning once you arrive to your destination. Do it as soon as you can so the bugs don't have time to bake in at all.

Really not much you can do, even witha clear bra you can still get indents/chips it something hits hard enough. We used to have them on some vehicles but not anymore, plus a few turned yellowish.

But honestly, one of my trucks was bought new and now has 95K miles on it, inlcuding plenty of trips back and forth to the lake house, or going way outta state, and the only chips I have are very, very small pock marks almost unoticeable. And if anything going to the lake see's more abuse then normal as the roads used to be horrible going out there and very dirty.

Just kinda have to put up with it.

Painters tape like so...

Oh, it works alright. VW owners have been doing it for years now when they drive their cars to shows and such. Some people go to extreams though, lol...

I didn't read your whole post. My bad. It is Friday afternoon.lol

At any rate, if you don't do a regular bra, I dunno what a cheaper alternative is to painters tape. I mean, it looks kinda funny, but it works and would only cost about $15. Plus, you can get that quick.

Some dealers don't carry bra's. In that case, you would have to order one and that would take a few days.

I would volunteeer to cover the front end with the tape though.:awesome:

Just remember to keep distance to the cars infront of you, that helps a lot on the chips.

The bugs...Put on a coat of DG 101 or 105 on the front, and they just slide off when washing;) + you are protected agains the "acid"

Gee, thanks Trul, but I do not have either product; is there one I could use in lieu of that?:)

Lauren, what size bra do you need!? Going to a dealership is too far extreme isn't it? Victory's Secret will do just fine won't it? ;)

Drive the speed limit. Increasing your speed, increases the chances of a rock hitting your paint, and doing some serious damage.

I cannot offer any more tips, as I haven't had a problem with rock chips on my paint. I don't have such a nice car as you, and when I get home, its back to getting her all pretty'd up!

Or, better yet, rent a car with navigation. Or rent a U-Haul, with the car towing package. :awesome:

Duplicolor makes a spray on bra just made for that reason..traveling..and it washes off..here is some info on it Shield

the Vinyl strap on ones are not so good..they can cause some marring from wind movement..

the spray on will not help with rock chips..but will with bugs and road grit ...

Nick, Lauren drives top-less :D so she should have a few spares..

Seriuosly, iirc 3M sells a clear bra, but it may not be cheap and you have to have it installed, also i would protect the side view mirrors..

a long time ago someone posted a product on DC..maybe TexasTB can find it,he's a genious at it ..

Just put on some sealer or wax, XMT sealer feks, but NOT over a wax if you have that on the car now, then i would just put a coate of the same wax you allready have on your vette before you go. And bring with you som QD and MFs (bird droppings, bugs etc)

Have read somewhere that you shouldnt have sealer over the wax, is that right?

Drive safe

Not to be a parrty pooper but neither of those options will prevent stone chips;)

Leave it to you, Nick!
I can get a bra at Victoria's Secret, but theyjust won't fit my vette...lol

Rent a car. no way. u haul? not fo this kinda trip. I just think you couldnt miss the bra joke.
Want me to send you a catalog?

LOL Hee hee

and are you crazy? drive 6 hours without her vette?! haha

anyways painters tape would be the best protector for chips and such but a fresh coat of wax to keep them from eating in is the next best thing since a bra would just be rediculously priced.

you dont have to go crazy with the tape though if your going to do it, just the lower lip and the front bumper, maybe the mirrors if you feel they are in jeapordy...those are the hardest hit areas

I think my choices are:

don't take it

or

take your chances and don't expect it to ever look the same.

Am I right?
