What can I use to prep new coat of wax?

Besides, you said you use Meg's Ultimate Wax and if that's the typical Meg's consumer wax it has light cleaners in it.

That's news to me. It's a polish wax and that doesn't mean it has cleaners. It's been documented over on the Meguiar's forum that it doesn't. That's a whole other debate similar to the NXT cleaner debate.

Hi guys, planning to wax my 2nd driver after waxing it almost a year ago. What can I do to prep the surface for some fresh wax? (Apart from clay bar) I don't plan on polishing any swirls/scratches out as there aren't many.

I like using Prima Amigo Pre-Wax Cleanser before a fresh wax. It's also a glaze that can actually remove OR fill those light swirls/scratches between corrections. You can apply by hand but a DA is quicker, I usually use my rotary with a gold jeweling pad at about 600 RPM's and it's squeaky clean in about two hours ready for wax. It has very very lite abrasives that can actually remove 3000 grit sanding marks. This is the only glaze product I've found that you can apply waxes over without any bonding issues.

"Amigo is the perfect prep-step for well-cared-for paint that just needs a cleaning before wax."

Here are the results I posted last year

Are we getting into semantics about chemical cleaners vs. abrasive cleaners? I'm not trying to debate that, I'm simply pointing out to the OP that if UW is a "typical" Meg's consumer product, it's got the "prep" built into it. But I really don't follow what goes on at MOL, or the current Meg's consumer LSP offerings. I'm simply trying to point out that for most consumer "waxes" the mfr. has presumed that the customer isn't going to be an Autogeek about prepping the paint and has added ingredients to promote adhesion.

I really have no interest in debating or parsing "It's a polish wax and that doesn't mean it has cleaners", I'm simply trying to help the OP. So sure, go ahead and tear me apart on semantics, but don't expect me to listen.

FYI, I appreciate all your answers. I decided to just clay the car and wax it with my DA. Thanks guys

There you go, wax, be happy, go on with your life. A lot better than trying to figure out if your wax is a polish wax or a cleaner wax.
