What Caused this? Post detailing scratches

Help!! Please see pic, attached, not sure how to insert, yet.

I polished and waxed (polymer) one week ago and all these scratches are starting to appear. This is on the hood of a truck, not seeing these scratches/marks any where else but the hood, but there are several on the hood.

What caused it?

What can I do about it?

Did "I" cause them?

I washed with Gold Class, dried with Cobra WW, polished using Meg DA (drill attachment) Meg Ulimate Polish, followed by Meg Ultimate wax applied with spreader.

Any/All help/advice is greatly appreciated!!

Do I need to turn in my wax before I even start? :(
 
Those do not appear to be scratches, but etching from bird droppings.
 
That's called crows feet or laquer checking. That is a failure of the paint system. Unlikely that you caused it with just ultimate polish, but it is possible.

Only solution is a respray.

Using the fingernail test, they feel like scratches. I'm not very good with photos, it's like there's small (qtr inch long) white scratches all over the hood, this is the only one that is clustered. {sigh} if only it were a white car.

do you know why it would show 'after' detailing?
 
It showed after detailing because during the polishing and washing phase you removed any of the contaminants filling in the etching.
 
It's my neighbor's truck, he is not the original owner; it's about 9 years old, GMC Sierra, 4 door extended cab.

There are no marks similar on any of the fenders/doors or side panels (I've not checked the roof).

If I strip the sealant and apply non abrasive glaze then re-add sealant wax, will that make it look any better? It's a black truck, shows everything.
 
I have seen Dr Color chip Road Rash kit used to somewhat repair that kind of etching. After it was applied, you could still see where it was applied if you looked close enough but from 10 feet away, it looked much better. It will make it look better but as stated earlier, respray is the only real fix.
 
Thanks everyone!! I will try Dr Color and glaze, at least make it look better.
 
Be aware that on one of the cars it was done to... it failed in 6 months. It appeared the the etching had gone deep enough to make the paint completely fail. That car was sent to auction with quarter size sections of primer or metal showing through. These three cars were abused pool cars so hopefully your results will be better.
