So I just bought a bunch of stuff from AG taking advantage of the 15% sale. I got myself a GG 6", couple of polishes and buffing pads. I got the LC 6.5" CCS pads (6-pack) with the following colors: 1 yellow, 2 orange, 1 white, 1 grey and 1 blue. I'm just wondering if this a good set of pads to start with? Obviously, this is my very first purchase and I would like to know what other enthusiasts like me would normally get in a 6-pack to start with?

In my opinion you have a pretty good mix to start. I find that I mostly use orange, white, and grey. I have about 6 of each and never really need anything else.

What type of polish do you have? The polish makes a big difference in the pad used. It is all about picking the right combination of pad and polish.

Before you place your next order for pads I would seek advice on CCS pads vs flat pads. I prefer the CCS but many on the boards like the flat ones.

I already ordered them. I got Megs #105, Megs #205, Megs #7 Show Car Glaze and Collinite #845 wax.

You have done your homework. Great choices!
I just used 845 for the first time and it is awesome stuff.

Thats a very nice setup to start out with. I think that the biggest learning curve is going to be finding what suits you best with the #105.

What pad would you suggest working it with? I got some pretty nasty scratches to deal with.

Most of the time the orange cutting pads with the M105 will tackle most defects the majority of people are dealing with on daily drivers.

Keep in mind you don't' always want to remove each and every scratch because to do so would mean to remove too much clear off the basecoat.

Here's a thread where we used the yellow cutting pads...

KISS Detail - Extreme Makeover - Toyota Highlander

We did about half the Toyota using 5.5" Lake Country Orange Light Cutting Pads and then so he would have a chance to try out a different pad system for experience we also used the 5.5" Lake Country Yellow CCS Cutting Pads for the rest of the Toyota.

John used the Porter Cable 7424XP while I used the Griot's Garage 6" Random Orbital Polisher.
(The same type of polishers, just different brands)
