what did everyone think of Obama's speech?

No one can fix the mess in 2 years what the previous administration left.

Lets get away from this excuse. It's getting old. He needs to step up to the plate and do the right thing. He has put this country so far in dept (Obama not Bush) that our childrens children are going going to feel it for a long time to come.

Racially motivated???????? The guy has spent more than every administartion before him. W was not my favorite and spent like a dimbulb too but quit playing the race card because the prez is half black. I don't care what the skin color is I'm not or ever will be a socialist and think government needs to get out of people's lives. Let's go back to personal responcibilty and see how that works.

hes a mess... The list of troubling facts... Dont even get me started... At least hes back to the only thing hes good at... hes campaigning for the next election. A lot of americans lik a good bs artist... I dont...Actions Mr. president...Actions

I knew it! Alot of people still don't get it. Well just keep living and paying your taxes. So the people that make the rules will continue on getting richer as the working people foot the tab.Our current President did not create most of the mess we are in. He is doing what he feels with stop or at least slow the downward spiral that pass Presidents, Government, Capitai Hill, Politics, and Greed have put the US in. It's not all Obama"s fault!
I am sure all of the naysayers can do a better job!

Seriously though, it must trouble you that he has alreay started campaigining for 2012 instead of actually listing some spending cuts from a bankrupt country?

Were friggin bankrupt and the guy refuses to create a budget! Has anybody in the history of any country every done this? I supported him before everyone else did and I first saw him talk. Then I did my research and by the time everybody jumped on that wagon I knew I was voting for John Mcain.

Research the true reason for clash for clunkers. You don't really find any logic in that do you? It was pure waste. It hurt the environment, the US economy... It was pure waste. (I'm happy for those of you that made out off the deal but can I have some of my tax money back?) At least it helped the Japanese economy.

I'm in Mexico so I haven't heard it. What I can tell you is I do not believe or trust any politician on this planet.

Politicians no longer represent the will or opinion of the people, they have merely been elected into a particular country club, sort of like the show; Lifestyles of Rich and the Shameless. Brought to you by and paid for by the tax payers, you know, what's left of the working class.

What greatly disturbs me is how politicians and big business have become joined at the hip raping this couinty and the American worker only to line their pockets. The Government of the United States is there to watch over its citizens and protect our way of life.

Politicians take the oath to pledge to honor the Constitution as constructed by its framers and honor the original intent of those precepts that have been consistently ignored – particularly the Tenth Amendment, which grants that all powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. Does "We The People" ring a bell?

This oath has become nothing more than a prerequisite this exclusive club and the very oath they took has been forgotten. Our freedoms and rights as Americans are continuously being attacked from within.

You want to get elected; Be ascetically pleasing, dress well, speak well, articulate and handle yourself well in front of people.... Make promises that you can't possibly keep. Sell yourself and your dream, the majority of people want to dream because reality bothers them.

If it sounds too good to be true then it probable isn't.

Remember I haven't seen this address but I have witnessed life and what's been happening to the United States of America over the past 50 years. The most successful and most powerful nation in the world reduced to the brink of economic disaster. Have you ever tried to borrow yourself out of debt?

A generation not too far in the distant past was coined "The Greatest Generation" and for good reason. They believed in and died to protect and ensure our way of life for generations to come.

This generation, if it would ever be coined, will go down in history as "The Greediest Generation...........

Well said!! :applause:

I didn't watch it last night. I can't stand listening to these things anymore. I do follow politics to some point. But I have to agree with Bobby. That most politicians, weather they are republican, democrat, or undecided are in politics to line their own pockets. Most make tons of empty promises in hopes of winning your vote, then when they are elected go back on half the stuff they promised to do. Or just never do it.

I understand that the country was starting to fail before Obama however he's only making it worse! Let's nationalize healthcare, let's give welfare to illegals, etc. This is all things that are going to drive our country and economy further into the ground. The illegal thing really pushes my button and I won't even go off on that right now.

When I saw this thread I actually thought that it was going to get ugly and fast, but honestly everyone has done a pretty good job of keeping it clean and just a good conversation. Well done everyone! lol

And please don't trumpet the Health insurance debacle. If you care than read this whole article linked below. If you don't than just read the last two paragraphs.

What's next for health insurers: Consolidation - Jan. 19, 2011

There is a fundamental difference of opinion here. Should the government be able to force somebody to do something they don't want to?

Ahhh, why did you guys get me jabbering about this. I don't worry about this stuff. We are all blessed and should be greatful for the lives we have. Do the best you can with what you have control over. Leave the rest up to God.

The speech was intended to be politically in the center, and it was. He didn't play one side over the other.

Now the Republican and Tea Bagger rebuttals...they were as we figured they would be...very partisan, and playing to their base with no answers, just the same rhetoric we've heard since forever. Michelle Bachman...heaven help us. What in the world are the tea baggers thinking..?..is this the best person they can field? (personally I hope so).

The great thing is...now the Republicans can't sit back and hide and complain....they actually have to work with the democrats to govern. I don't hold much hope for that because their only goal is to take down the president.

Silverfox try and grow up. Using a deragatory term for a political movement is childish.

Several things about this administration and speech are bothersome. Obama's speech was masked with conservative rhetoric trying to sell a socialist agenda with more spending. NOT GOOD. And did anyone else notice Obama looked like he was watching a tennis match while he was giving his speech?

Obama is so far left he makes Carter look like a moderate. I agree with a previous post that ALL politicians need term limits so this doesn't become their way of life and encourage new ideas.

Some people have mistaken discrimination for racism. And yes I discriminate..........against bad behavior. Obama has exuded bad behavior by surrounding himself with the likes of Ayers, Rev. Wright, Van Jones, Khalidi (who helped him get into Harvard and is a political advisor to the Saudi's), his ties to ACORN, and half of the tax evading Czars and others he has hand picked to surround him. Capitol Hill wreaks of scandals and lies. All politicians posses this trait but Obama ranks #1 with an agenda to go with it.

Obama is trying to kill the moral fiber this country was founded on with his socialist agenda masked as healthcare. As a country we cannot continue to support those who aren't willing to work and make government assisted living a way of life. We need to start empowering people with work ethic. I would like to see the country strive to have a government that actually cares about the people, the good of the country, and operates with transparency.

Financial responsibility- you can't spend money you don't have!! I know all of us have to be responsible with our money to support our families and not encure debt. We don't have the option to print more money (without going to jail). Why can't government do the same? Obama has run our debt up to over 14 trillion dollars!! It's rapidly approaching five times what it was pre-Obama. It must be Bush's fault.

Remember, it takes a Carter to get a Reagan!

I didn't watch the speech last night because even at the ripe old age of 22 I have lost faith in the values, ethics and morals that this country was designed and built on.

I love America and I love having the freedoms that I have, that many people in this world will never experience. HOWEVER our government and "democracy" is a bunch of BS....

Yes we have the power to vote, express our opinions, and show resisitance, but let's be completely honest here... Decisions that were made under pressure have sucked. Not just this term but in the past... Although I will never be in the shoes of our Commander in Chief and under a situation like that, I feel on some HUGE decisions that were made things could have been different...

Let's take the bail out for GM.... It's awesome how many jobs we saved, don't get me wrong but what about other former Titans of economy? Anyone remember a company called Circuit City? Over 70,000 jobs lost? Or what about all the small businesses across the nation that have had to close the doors to their well being and way of life because they weren't given a bail out? IMO poor decisions were made when other methods could have been used to boost our economy... Why not distribute all the bail out money to unlclaimed tax payers not on government support? (unemployment) They would naturally spend the money on bills (with some control) and what ever is left over enjoy on other things... It's a basic rule people *SPENDING DRIVES THE ECONOMY*

To make a long story short, and before I get into this at work, the point I am trying to make is that no matter what someone says they are going to do before they are in a position of power in this country, it all gets thrown out the window by the time they reach it... They are blinded by the almighty dollar and the spending of major power houses to support their campaign that they have no other choice but to listen to what the major supporters say... All decisions based on eithics and morals are completely gone... It's disgusting.

Well said. It is truely laughable that people really think this guy to be "change" for the better. He is as corrupt as they come. That opinion of mine is based on his actions. Incredible some of the things he has gotten away with without a peep from the media! How about that videotape of him at a palestinian fund raiser... the one the LA times admitted they had but refused to release leading up to his election. Does anybody know if that ever got out? Probably confiscated by the gov.

Ah, "The audacity of hope"

I understand your concern for the debt, but let's use accurate numbers in the argument. At the time Obama took office, the debt was $10.6 trillion ( National Debt Hits Record $11 Trillion - Political Hotsheet - CBS News ).

I stand corrected. I think the thought of my son's future being mortgaged away caused temporary insanity and skewed my numbers. Plus I just hit 40 so the memory might be slipping a little. :xyxthumbs:

The article you sent was dated March 17th, 2009. Since then the debt has increased, here's another link show the debt. I was off with the initial debt but I was spot on with the current debt.

U.S. National Debt Clock : Real Time Current debt......WOW!!!!! :bash:

Government - Historical Debt Outstanding - Annual 2000 - 2010

I found the olives in my martini more exciting than the speech. Hell, I have more faith in those olives than POTUS right now. My olives did not just raise my health insurance up by 42%!

Yes, you were correct with the current debt numbers. Deficit spending has been out of control since the 80's (as brought up by Ross Perot in the '92 election, when he said we were "mortgaging our grandchildren's future" or something to that effect), with a minor blip in the late '90's when the budget was balanced.
